How is Bielema any better of a fit at Arkansas than he would be at Iowa? If Iowa truly pursued him and wanted to pay him and buy out his contract then the only thing that would keep him at Arkansas would be him not wanting to start over. Iowa is his alma mater and he has a much better shot at winning his conference there then he does at Arkansas

We don't. If it happens, we'll just have to deal with it.

You're trying to scare us with talk of Bielema leaving? We survived John l Smith. We're afraid of nothing.

This is such an overused, overrated, and flat out incorrect statement.

At Iowa where there's even less in-state talent, and less talent in surrounding states to pull from, there's also a P5 in-state rival, which they lost to this season. Iowa is far far far away from beating the pinnacle programs in the Big 10. They went 4-4 this season in a weak Big 10. Got pasted by Northwestern 48-7, etc. The only saving grace is they don't have to play Ohio St. and Penn St. every year.

Bielema in his 2nd season in the SEC despite going 2-6 in the conference, the Hogs only had 2 bad halves in conference play. The 2nd half against Auburn and the 1st half against Georgia. The team improved by leaps and bounds from the first game to the last. Not many teams in America can match improvement this year. The rest of the SEC will likely be a little worse next year, most SEC-W teams are losing QB's or don't have a solid answer at the position, they lost key coaches, and key players. Arkansas returns almost everyone, will have a Sr. QB that threw 20 TD's against 5 INT and will get better.

Then add in the recruiting classes that are providing quality depth and filling holes in the roster so that we're actually a complete SEC caliber team. We have advantages to being a SEC team, we're closer to better talent, and have quite a bit of ammo for the recruiting battles in the years to come. The other SEC programs are deteriorating and we're improving, getting sharper, bigger, faster, stronger etc.

Just wait Big Bert will prove that he can win the SEC and it'll be easier to do than win the Big 10 at Iowa with Meyer, Harbaugh, Franklin in the league now.

Nope I love LSU and I'm more die hard than anybody. I like the Vols #2 Buckeyes #3, airforce, navy round out 4&5.

And yet Iowa still has more players in the NFL than Arkansas by a substantial margin. Iowa has nearly as many pro-bowl caliber players in the NFL as Arkansas has in the league period.

You better get a big time coach to keep that program afloat if Ferentz leaves.

Bert's buyout is 2.5m I think but that could change this offseason.

Iowa will have no problem hiring a good coach. Can't get Bielema? Call home Mark Stoops from Kentucky or Bob Stoops (trust me, some OU fans would be fine with that)

All Iowa needs is the right coach. They put plenty of talent in the NFL and Hayden Fry had Iowa as the premier program in the Big Ten of the 80's. Had them ranked #1 more than once, came very close to a natty and if it weren't for a guy named Bo Jackson would have had a Heisman winner.

I know. Iowa feeds America, should be thankful for all that corn. I'll take the corn, soy beans, and wind mills over the meth, fat people, and wal marts in Arkansas. And I think you're scared that Bert will too.

You have a point. That's why I won't be surprised if he stays and will be happy with Mark Stoops.

Jr, you are trying way too hard. Go sit in the corner until Auburn wins a bowl game.

Then why does Iowa pay so much for Ferentz? Incompetence would be the only one or where am I wrong?

Just cause Big Man went to and coached at Iowa doesn't mean he will end up there as HC if asked. Timing is a huge part of it. Ask Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson.

Why people assume a coach will leave for their alma mater is strictly that........an assumption

Why? If you really want to know and don't mind reading a semi long explanation then here it goes:

Kirk Ferentz signed his current contract right after an 11-2 season and Orange Bowl win. A year where if their starting QB doesn't get hurt (or they had returned their Heisman finalist RB from the previous year) they likely finish the regular season undefeated and Big Ten champs, had multiple 1st round picks and several NFL players. At that point in his career that was his 4th 10 win season, 2nd BCS bowl and he had 2 split conference championships.

That brings me to the reason of the current high priced contract: Iowa's AD and biggest boosters are old. Old enough to remember before Hayden Fry when Iowa had nearly two decades of being a Kansas like program. The people in charge are content and even happy with mediocrity as long as Iowa consistently is above .500 and making bowl games. Thus the current dilemma and the hesitation in firing Ferentz when it's a couple seasons overdue at this point.
