Yeah the reason Vandy isn't last is because they were actually a powerhouse up until the 1930's.

Whereas South Carolina has never been a powerhouse ever.

That site takes into account, and credits equally "accomplishment" Pre-WWII.

LSU was the most feared program in the 90s, no one wanted to play them. LSU wasn't the last new SEC-W team to make it to the SEC-CG.

i have no idea what any of this means. i think Dale may have just stroked out

If you won a bowl game in the 1920s and the local paper proclaimed you to be "X Bowl National Champs" and your school claims it, it is given the same weight as being a BCS-NC in their formula.

No it isn't.

Interesting that LSU has slightly overtaken UT in some of these types of rankings.

cfb data warehouse is the ONLY site that ranks LSU ahead of UT. they use some weird arse formula with "schedule points" taking up nearly half of total points.

I know you are making this comment in jest, but I love when ignorant opposing fans say this.

Sure LSU had a roller coaster of ups and downs in the 80s-90s, but LSU football actually has a rich tradition.

Without completely understanding how each category is calculated I'm hoping UGA can overtake Tennessee for #10 overall this season.

I have always had two problems with those rankings:

1. National championship points. What is their formula? Is it 15 points per selector with arbitrary selectors chosen? Not to mention the random selectivity of mythical NCs anyway where so much depends on so many random variables.

2. Major bowls. Too subjective, too much of a popularity contest. Too much past conference tie-ins influence it. Too many other random variables. For example, bama went to some of their Rose Bowls back in the 20's or 30's because other teams (often better teams) did not even want to go and turned down the offer. Then you have the bowls like the Capital One and Outback that often have better teams in them than the BCS bowls. Totally useless stat in the formula.

IMO, the formula is simply too flawed to be taken seriously as 2/4 components are EXTREMELY subjective and often not even related to what happens on the field.

Take the winning percentage and SOS and you have a 10x better formula.

Where did the extra points come from? A couple of months ago, we were only 7 points behind UG (1777-1770).
