AJ was good in '11? 16-5 TD-INT ratio with Darius Hanks and Maze to throw too?

Gmac lost 3 in '10 because of defensive woes and an inexperienced offensive line. Gmac played in '09

quote:

should have lost 3 that year and didn't even face a team as good as AU or UGA will be this year

Auburn should have lost numerous games in 2010 and 2013, but didn't because they found a way to win. Winning a natty requires good chemistry with the team, average to great QB play, average-great defense, and some luck. "Should haves" is dumb. And AU+UGA> any team Alabama played in 2009 is remained to be seen, but I'll go ahead and say I don't think Auburn nor Georgia will have a better team than what Florida had in the 2009 SECCG.

I can't remember a time where both bama and UGA have so many QB questions this late in fall camp... maybe a little bit last year, but nothing like this... both have gotten consistent/solid QB play over the decade or so.

Mel Tucker. Experience. S&C. Depth. I mean, aren't you guys banking on being better? Saban Ds at Bama finish top 5 more often than not. Feel free to bookmark it if you want.

Time to go see what Chest Tat got.

So Mel Tucker is the missing link, he is better than both Saban and Smart at coaching DBs ? AU fans are banking that their Defense goes from sucking to average. Bama Fans are beating their chest that they go from suspect to best in the Country. That is a big jump, especially if they do not have an Offense to compliment their Defense.

Basically, we need someone who won't turn the ball over, can hand the ball off, and throws slants, curls, and screens with relative ease. Anything better is lagniappe.

LSU too, every third year we have that guy.

The 2014 defense finished 12th nationally in total defense and 3rd in scoring. It was 4th nationally in run defense. So yeah, a change at DB coach could be key. Smart has been far better with LBs.

I swear I don't understand the perception some of you have created about Alabama's defense. Alabama must be the only program ever to be in a decline while winning a conference title.

#6 Scoring Defense in the country to top 5 is a big jump? Gus would give his left nut to be that "suspect".

But the formula to beat their defense is well known by now. Only a few teams had those ingredients the last few years-quality QB play, above average running game, physical WRs. AU, Ole Miss and OSU had it last year, this year there are at least 6 teams with that potential.

Keep on reaching. Our worst D in years was top 10. All indications are that this one is one of Saban's best at Bama. I guess you'll just have to be convinced. That's fine.

Top 10 Defenses do not give up 630 yard 537 yards in their two biggest games of the year.

The 2014 Alabama defense was not a Top 10 defense. They finished #12 in Total Defense last season.

You act as if Alabama's coaching staff is unbending and refuse to change. For the last two recruiting cycles Saban & co. have been recruiting fewer situational players and more players who can play every down on defense. His front seven personnel are getting lighter and faster. Saban is changing his defensive philosophy to better suit the times we are in.

The coaches believe they are still one recruiting class away from where they want to be on defense though.
