That makes 2 consecutive years that Bama's opening day QB went undefeated for his career

Not really a good example to wax curmudgeonly about -- Hurts is a true freshman, right? If he improves, that's a minimum of three years on the bench for Barnett. Guy deserves to go somewhere he'll have a decent shot at starting. From what I saw of him, his arm and aim are both good, though his footwork needs some work.

I have no problem with him transferring, but what is he going to do the rest of this season? Seems sticking it out and getting practice reps, working out, and getting backup game reps made more sense than leaving 4 games into the season.

FML. If Hurts goes down we're screwed.

The kid needs to transfer, he had a tremendous upside and has the tools to be an NFL qb. He needs to make a good decision on where he ends up, somewhere that can refine his abilities.

We really gotta find a way to keep Bateman next year. Otherwise a true freshman might be our backup behind Hurts

Knew this was coming, no way he was going to sit until JH was gone to play. But as several others have said, the timing is strange.

He may be homesick or just spoiled. I wonder if the coaches saw this and that's why they played 4 QBs Saturday, or if Coach playing 4 QBs was what hurt his feelings.

I didn't think they should have played all 4 QBs vs LSU last weekend. I thought they should have let BB get all the reps that JH didn't get, but now it looks like a smart move. Which is why I don't second guess anything the coaches do anymore. They obviously know way more than anyone else.

In the middle of the season? Why not wait? What if Hurts suffers a major injury or goes through a stretch where he really struggles? What's the point of transferring now?

Oh, you can be certain that they've seen it every day since the USC game. How often does Saban preach about overcoming adversity? Saban has had a front row seat to Barnett's demeanor every day.

Are LSU fans actually trying to troll Bama?

Yep yep first thing I thought also. It isn't like Hurts is fond of sliding either.

You gotta think he's going to the west coast somewhere.

Meh -- give me a good 3* or 4* any day. That fifth star is more like an asterisk*.

It's a Darwinian game. Bama is loaded with talent and he didn't get what he wanted despite being the odds on favorite. I don't blame him for wanting to transfer but he should have finished at least the regular season.

As for the last part, I get that it doesn't look good, but I honestly can't speak for his motive. Perhaps he's getting a head-start on his applications for transfer for some reason. Maybe he's leaving so Saban can concentrate on the 3rd string (Cornwell?) without the long goodbye of having Barnett hanging around. Or maybe he's actually trying to do y'all a favor by taking himself out of the equation well before NSD. Don't y'all have some Hawaiian five star committed right now?

Or maybe he's just bitter and wants to leave. Or he wants to ensure he can't get played (refusing to go on the field would be a terrible look for any program who might accept him) and therefore avoids injury. Until he or Saban release a statement, or somebody here offers a compelling rationale based on logic or the rules, people are just gonna have to remain in the dark about his reasons for leaving so early, I guess.

Edit: Can one of you Bama fans go talk to Saban and see if he'll allow Barnett to transfer in-conference so long as it's us? Please? Shurmur has actually shown some improvement, but we want a star. We'll repay you by beating Auburn so you'll have another 7 years to make fun of them for their record against Vandy.

I gotta think that west coast split-tail factors into Blake's decision to walk..
