He jumped early - I surprised he didn't ride out the rest of the season/semester, I mean they just took mid-term exams last week.

He needs a change of scenery. The spotlight was too much for him.

He's got talent, just needs a smaller stage till he solves his confidence issues.

He left the team. Probably to USC

It was a guarantee he was leaving, and he should leave. He is a red-shirt freshman behind a true freshman. However, the timing is odd

It makes no sense. If Hurts goes down this year, he had a chance to takeover and take the job. Now, he is useless until fall of 2018. Makes no sense to leave now

Scared he would get Alec Morrised.

He was given every opportunity. He just looked lost. Even against Kent State. But the talent is obvious at moments.

agree. Only thing I can think is that if he plays in 1/3 of the season or less then maybe he can count this as his sit out year? Don't know for sure on that, but it's only thing that makes sense in terms of timing.

Like he gave up and quit.

I mean, the guy ahead of him is a runner. it's not a given that Barnett wouldn't have started multiple games down the road THIS season and helped his profile. Oh well. Be smart with play calling, Kiff, and be smart and get down, Jalen.

Yep plus you get beat out by a guy younger than you you're basically just holding out for an injury. Not like most other positions where you can still rotate in and pick up playing time that way. The timing is definitely odd though

That is the only reason this would concern me as a Bama fan. Yall had a serviceable backup, which is very important with a running QB.

Yes but he can outplay him in practice, or the freshman at some point may not play as well. Also injuries, you don't want them but they are part of the game.

Pretty sure redshirts are burned immediately in football. Think its different in basketball.

I would imagine the same is true for "sit years".

It would be dumb as shite for him not to transfer in his situation honestly. But the timing is odd

So is this the third 5 star we have lost this season? Baldwin, Barnett, Sheffield. Am I missing someone?

Bateman is still serviceable. I just don't think you want him playing long stretches, considering the direction the offense is going.
