re: Alabama Fans, when we win "#16" can we just keep the claim at 15?

Bama was the only unbeaten untied team outscoring its opponents 277-7. Clearly a BS title

Yeah I don't claim 15 or 1941 and I advise most of my Bama friends to not claim them either. We have plenty enough to be proud of today without having to trump up the title count.

Sorry, 1941 is claimed in lieu of deserved titles in 1966 and a good argument in 1977.

I honestly can't remember the last time I talked about the "number of national titles". We've won 3 in the last 6 years and are about to play for our 4th in 7 years. That is in line to be one of the 2 greatest runs in the last 30 years along with Miami from 1983 to 1991. Who cares about titles in 1941 and 1930? I mean, I am proud of the tradition of winning the Rose Bowls and of Bryant's teams, but I don't even care about talking about them at this point outside of an overall discussion about the history of the program.

So this is the Bama version of our first National tile in 1984?

Well, you have to consider 2 things:
1. The timing and motivation for the claims...
WHAT THE frick IS WRONG WITH YOU???
If you find an answer to that one, you've solved a much more complex problem than Bama's title claims.

Dartmouth was undefeated and untied that year as well...
All "titles" awarded in 1925 were retroactive...but of the 12 awarded, 9 went to Bama, 2 to Dartmouth, and 1 to a one-loss team. And, as posted previously, more than one newspaper/media source were of the opinion that the Rose Bowl that year was for National Grid Title/Mythical National Championship...pretty sure that it's a safe bet that Bama was clearly one of the top teams that year and would've easily been in the top 10, if there had been one...

but you can't claim a title that wasn't awarded to you. That's auburn logic.

Lol. Bama was nowhere close to the best team in the country several of those years. In 1925 it is doubtful that bama was even a top 10 team
Bama was undefeated in 25' and beat the best of the west. How do you figure there were 10 better. Typical AU jealosy. We were the first southern team to play in the Rose Bowl - only bowl of that era. Funny but I just noticed that Auburn never played in the Rose Bowl. GA Tech only played it once in 1929. So yeah, we put southern football on the map.

And accurate. The 1941 Houlgate title is very dubious and most of us in the thread have agreed it should not be claimed. But it IS a title and it WAS awarded to Bama. There is no justification for auburn fans claiming 1983 or 2004 just because you THINK you had the best team.
Posted on 1/5/16 at 6:55 pm to GIbson05
I'm all for it. Or, we could just be real and call it 10 in the poll era. Either way, it's still the best record.

While I don't think any selectors chose the 2004 team, the '83 Auburn team did get recognized by a few minor selectors as champs...NYT, CFRA, and a couple others I believe...that AU team got jobbed in a similar fashion as the '77 Bama team...

Meh. I wish we'd claim the other 4 that we don't (1945, 1966, 1975, 1977) just to piss everyone off.
Posted on 1/5/16 at 7:30 pm to StopRobot
Bama didn't play 1 team that was remotely respectable in 1925. Would be sorta like Jack State claiming a BCS national championship for going undefeated in bowl subdivision play.
Go educate yourself gump. There is a reason 1925 bama is not even considered a top ten team by many who have done the research.
Just another bullshite claim in a long list of bullshite claims is all 1925 is at the end of the day.

It makes me happy that fans of any team not named Alabama would take the time to read up on Alabama's national title claims
