I'm genuinely confused why there is so much excitement for beating a below average Clemson team by one point.

Because we've been bad for several years and, in Avery's first year, he has an undermanned Bama team at least competing well. I don't think you're genuinely confused unless you just happen to be very easy to confuse, or haven't watched a basketball game in your life.

This year? Won't make the tourney and won't sniff being ranked. Bama has played two decent teams (one is ranked) and lost by about 20 and 30 points. Recruiting looks to be going well and next year, bama may be decent though.

I've been so preoccupied with Bama football - SEC Championship - Heisman race - Playoff preparation that I've paid little attention to Bama Bball. Thanks for keeping me updated.

That is a game that we are barely competitive in, much less win in recent years.

The bar for Bama hoops is much lower than it is for football...for now at least.

I mean look at USCe. They're undefeated and unranked.

And they haven't played anyone.

Yeah because who you play matters. Bama has 3 straight quality wins and their two losses came to other good teams on the road and in a neutral side. Xavier looks REALLY good.

And yet, USC is the team ranked 25th in the coaches poll this week, and 27th in the AP. And Alabama is the team that doesn't even get votes for either poll....

Bama played 2 opponents that are better than any opponents USC has played yet - and lost to both of them. USC has played and beaten two opponents in Oral Roberts and Tulsa that are better quality opponents than any that Bama has yet beaten, and that includes Clemson (and we of course will play Clemson in about a week, so).

We actually are going to play the lowest remaining RPI opponent left on our OOC schedule in Drexel, tomorrow. That should deliver a hit to our rpi of (currently) 25th. The next-lowest rpi OOC opponents left for us to play? Clemson - yes, that's right, THAT Clemson.

The lowest rpi OOC opponent that we'll play this season is Norfolk State, who was our season-opening win and they are in the 300s. But guess who else still has to play Norfolk St.? That's right: Alabama....

The schedules of both SEC teams aren't really that different from one another...
