Hell, I'm still trying to figure out why you would start a song with Hullabaloo Kaneck Kaneck - WTF does that mean anyway? And where the hell is Chigagaroo?

I always laugh at all the mental midgets who claim Texas doesn't care about us. Have you not seen all they are doing, still? Have you not seen that they don't want to play A&M and have asked other Texas schools not to play us as well. Deloss told every coach in every sport not to schedule A&M. THAT is butthurt.

Go to their message boards. They love talking about A&M. I still get texts from my Horn friends wishing us bad luck before games.

That being said, I would not at all be opposed to changing the war hymn. I personally have always preferred The Spirit and always wanted it to take its place.

I hope you guys know that Texas also has "...and it's goodbye to A&M" in their fight song. Funny I don't see OU mentioned. Nor Arkansas. Nor any other foe.

There are many more examples about what makes this a special rivalry. Their hook em horns sign was invented by a cheerleader because we had a Gig 'em and they felt they needed a hand signal. Their Texas Fight was a direct response to our Farmers Fight. Again, they felt they needed something. Same rhythm too. But sure, they never have cared about us.

quote:

"Our team, the band and the cheerleaders were on the stage at Gregory Gym. After conducting the regular pep rally, I got the crowd quiet and began explaining to them: 'You know how the Aggies have the "Gig 'Em" thumbs-up hand sign (doing it as I spoke). I do not know of any other college with a hand signal. But it is time we had one, too.'"

Agsessed.

Auburn and Alabama both still have references to Georgia Tech in their traditions. Singing the same songs and having the same parades you've had for decades is a tribute to the past.

I get the rivalry not continuing in football between A&M and Texas, but are you serious that they are not playing in basketball, baseball or anything else?

Dead serious. Every coach came out, at the instruction of Deloss, and said they were not scheduling A&M. Not even chick sports.

That makes sense and was what I always suspected. Thanks for clearing it up.

Having said that it still seems that people disagree with you and the team itself was called varsity.

That is utterly insane on Texas' part. Yea you Ags are right Texas does care a whole lot about your decision to jump ship because they never thought it would happen and now they are stuck in that bush league conference.

Are they still doing the Hex Rally before the last game? Or did that die with our rivalry?

For those who don't know, the Horns all convene before the A&M game to "hex" our team.

Oh and for the record the Chronicle is a joke and will probably go the way of the dinosaurs in the next few years.

Pigmus..honest question. If you hate it so much in College Station (at least 50 posts on how much you hate it there), why don't you move?

Surely you can find a job somehwhere else or are your job skills so bad that you can't find anything else? If so, get off the internetz and get some skills.

I hope you can sense sarcasm. If you've seen "50" posts from me talking about how much I hate it then you've bound to have seen some where I said otherwise or indicated I am typically trolling about such things. Aggies are the easiest group in the world to troll and it is often quite fun.

For the record, and these are my honest sentiments, A&M is a great school and I like B/CS just fine. Do I think it's magical or holds some unobservable magic over other places? No, not really. This is the best program for my field I was accepted to. I'm happy with it and the town has all I need for getting this done. I've made many good friends here and most Aggies are good folks.

In this thread I've said nothing about B/CS until now. I had an honest question about the use of the word varsity in your song. We can have fun and banter back and forth surely without everyone taking things so damn serious. Thanks and gig em.

Yes, the cow was called varsity before 1915. In this year A&M beat UT 13-0 and kidnapped Varsity and branded the score on his hyde. As such:
.
The whorns later fixed the brand to read BEVO. Later we ate that fricker in steak form!

Yeah I knew that story, which is cool btw, but wasn't the hymn written sometime later, after Bevo was Bevo? Or was the author just old school?

You don't have to be overly smart to do graduate work at A&M. You act like it's hard to get into or something.

People who say that Texas doesn't give 2 shits about A&M are either A) someone who doesn't live in Texas or B) Someone who stopped watching football in 2005. Texas absolutely loathes us, and even moreso now that we are relatively more successful.

I both live in Texas and continue to watch football past 2005 and I can vouch that Texas does indeed not give 2 shits about A&M. I see it every day down here. You are their little brother who always tried to be like them and when they shun you your fan base gets red in the face and starts holding your breath, stomping your feet, and going on rants about education rankings and how loud your chants are.

You Aggies are a weird bunch.

That certainly explains the entire forum they have dedicated to talking about us on Shaggybevo.

Texas is completely obsessed with A&M, it's very much the crazy ex GF. Even their highlight video before their games this year is basically a montage of scenes of them making plays against A&M with the crescendo being the FG that won the game for them last year. Shaggy Bevo still has an entire forum dedicated solely to A&M. They try to say that OU is their "real rival" and yet they don't have a song or tradition at all around the game other than playing it in Dallas.

They not only won't play us in any sports but they have heavily pressured every other Big 12 School not to play A&M or Mizzou in any sports as well and nothing is currently scheduled in any sport with any Big 12 team. It's just stupid, it goes along with their "A&M left the State of Texas" mantra. Thus next year we have scheduled Rice, SMU, and Sam Houston for football. Really it hurts the minor sports for everyone the most as it is silly not to play a soccer game or softball with a school 90 miles away in the case of Texas or Baylor. The butthurt is unbelievable.

As for the article, when I want a chick from New York that went to Wesleyan to tell me about what traditions A&M should or shouldn't keep I'll make sure to ask her. In the mean time, kiss my arse. A&M is filled with traditions that have long since lost their original meaning. Hell, the name of the school is still "Texas A&M" though the "A&M" doesn't actually mean anything anymore since we changed from being "The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas" 50 years ago. We just didn't want to be "Texas State" or whatever so we kept the "A&M" in spite of the fact the school hasn't been focused on just Ag and Engineering for a LONG time.

On top of all of this, eventually A&M and Texas will start playing each other again. 100 years ago Texas stopped playing us because we beat them several times in a row. That's actually why we branded their nutless bovine with "13-0" which was the previous score and they transformed it in to "Bevo" which was the name of a local Near Beer. After a few years we joined the SWC with them as founding members and continued playing. As of now we will take a few years off outside of bowl games but eventually DeLoss Dodds (who went to KState btw) will get fired or retire and we will play again. Every other state has their Flagship schools play in football and other sports, it's just stupid that they don't. Personally I don't really care much anymore, I am loving the SEC. I also hope we can play LSU on rivalry weekend and leave the Texas game for earlier in the year, if for no other reason they will cancel again if we start beating their arse like we did in the '80s and '90s.

I'm just tired of those bastards and wish they would either play us or leave us the hell alone. We have moved on and are loving the SEC while they have clearly got buyer's remorse about the LHN and the dumpster fire that is the Big 12 now.
