Meh, I think that A&M is a fairly good cultural fit with the SEC on almost every other level. If the one complaint is that we think Greeks are a waste of space I can live with that.
You can tell that greeks are on the rise though and it is not a good thing. They are very present in the student section, but there are constant complaints from non-greeks about their inability/unwillingness to keep with traditions. Once they ruin our traditions our atmosphere will not be what it historically has been.
And what self respecting man wear freaking neon to a damn football game

The very fact you had to publish your little diatribe--which no doubt reflects your best effort--to take a stab at persuasion just goes to the heart of this.

A non-conforming conformist.

A&M does not have a strong Greek community. Frats and Sororities were actually not even allowed until the '80s and they are still viewed with a lot of skepticism by many Aggies. They are under a constant microscope. The primary concept behind Frats run counter to A&M's culture (selecting your friends and exclusivity) so they are tolerated but are a very small percentage of the student body. The overwhelming majority of Aggies are Independent. A&M does have an incredibly robust amount of student organizations though for anything you could ever be interested in. The most powerful group by far is the Corps for a number of reasons though it is only about 2k out of 50k students.

What are you talking about?

Why do outsiders care so much about what we do? Aggsession noted.

The irony from an outside observer is that your cultish traditions are why most people don't think you're a fairly good fit culturally. Another outside observation is you don't really need traditions to have a good atmosphere, all you need is enough alcohol and obnoxiousness.
BTW, I don't care what the current frat fashion is, neon to a football game is NF.

See this your problem, close minded fear of anything new or that you don't understand. This is why people think I hate it here. I make any comment about the town or college and all of a sudden I am a hater. Discussion is not allowed, and diversity is not welcome.

Don't know if this has been covered yet, but "Saw Varsity's Horns Off" is actually a separate song from the War Hymn. We've just always gone straight into it after the end of the War Hymn. shite, after sawing, the band goes into "hot time," so the Aggie War Hymn as it stands today is actually a 3 part song

I strongly disagree with this notion but that conversation is for another day.

The force of an argument suggesting something's irrelevant or is viewed with ambivalence is of course diminished when you're screaming it in desperation.
Your stance reflects that of the horns'.

Pretty certain that "sawed off" Longhorn has been there a long time. There were several of them all around BCS including a full sized one in front of Aggieland Outfitters. They actually gave that one a proper sendoff with the help of Jackie Sherrill upon joining the SEC.

And yet, here we are.
What I mean is, I guess it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. A&M and current and former students aren't looking for validation. If we were, we would have gone generic like everyone else decades ago.

So far nobody has any sort of coherent explanation that is consistent with other posters. Otherwise I am a B/CS hater and bpfergu is a retarded mad person. Oh, and Aggies hate greeks. Just another day up in here.

Texas hasn't given two shits about TAMU in years, despite what you think. Ask them about the Red River Rivalry....
Don't care. It's our song. We wrote it. We don't need their approval to sing it. They can go circle jerk to getting blown out by Stoops all they want, but the Lone Star Showdown is a part of both teams history. What Fran did to ruin the program might have ruined some of the luster in recent years, but tu is not above having an instate rival, even if their younger fans want you to believe that. Until 16 years ago, they only had ONE all sports rival... Texas A&M. And maybe Arky for a bit.

this will take a long time to fade away. MIZZOU fans will always hate kansas. It will take generations of fans forgetting about these rivalries. Think if Auburn and Alabama were somehow separated from each other, the hatred would never die. never.
That happened. For 40 years.

I just like the song etymology, to be honest. All the other stuff is irrelevant to me
