Another issue is whether or not OU would stay if big 10 offered a few years down the road

It would add the Oklahoma TV market (OK City) and north Texas which is always a big factor in conference expansion.

Would be awesome ads for basketball and would just make baseball that much more difficult.

Just to add........distances from Stillwater/Norman to proposed SEC West rivals :

Stillwater, OK
Mississippi State - 9.5 hours
LSU - 9.25 hours
Ole Miss - 8.25 hours
Missouri - 6.5 hours
Texas A&M - 6.5 hours
Arkansas - 3 hours
Oklahoma - 1.5 hours

Norman, OK
Mississippi State - 10.5 hours
LSU - 9 hours
Ole Miss - 8.25 hours
Missouri - 7 hours
Texas A&M - 5.5 hours
Arkansas - 3.75 hours
Oklahoma State - 1.5 hours

North texas already pays full price for the tv contracts, we can't charge them more than full price

Oklahoma already pays for the network just not full price

All we would get would be the difference in Oklahoma only

Don't want Oklahoma to join, but would love to see how fast Big Game Bob's tune changed about the strength of the SEC.

Which is basically why we likely won't expand anytime soon.

If we do expand we certainly won't take two teams from one state.

Much more likely to try and grab ACC teams if the Big 12 ever crumbles and chaos ensues.

Virginia Tech and NC St would be great additions. Both states have much higher population than Oklahoma and we'd get two states instead of one.

East
TN
FL
UGA
SC
Vandy
KY
VT
NC ST

West
Bama
Auburn
LSU
A&M
Ark
Ole Miss
Miss St
Missouri

Adding a Virginia school and a North Carolina school gives the same fix, but also adds some big-time TV markets.

The State of Oklahoma makes no sense for any conference realignment. That's why OU is stuck.

Agreed - the only issues are the whole state of Virginia legislature thing and NC State being in the heart of the ACC.

Getting Virginia and North Carolina into the SEC is clearly the #1 goal of any future expansion. Charlotte, Raleigh, Norfolk/Va Beach, Metro DC and the other 5-6 large secondary cities in that area (Richmond, Greensboro, Asheville, etc). And those schools would "fit" the SEC East schools just as well as OU/OSU would "fit" into the SEC West. Would be a seamless transition IMHO.

NC State - Tennessee - VT - South Carolina would all be very close and could develop into really solid secondary rivalry type games.

I think adding both Oklahoma schools would be good for the league.

Arkansas used to play Oklahoma State yearly, but stopped a while back. Of course, Arkansas would have another two big border state games per season. I like the idea on the surface.

I am in Tulsa a bit for work and listen to their local sports talk show. Those natives are certainly getting restless and have grown tired of being in bed with Texas over the last 20 years or so. Ive heard some callers say they do not even care about the Red River Rivalry game any longer, if it meant they could join the SEC.

The divisions you listed certainly make sense. Each division would be really tough to get through unscathed. Especially in football. Across all sports, OU has a solid softball program and basketball program. OSU has a solid baseball program and wrestling.

OU has been facing a bit of a money crisis lately which is why I think their dobbers are a little down right now. Their stadium expansion at the start, was to cost around $370 million. Since, they have had to cut corners and cut cost. The estimate on their expansion now stands at $160 million. That is almost $200 million less than what they had wanted to spend.

In my opinion, they see everyone just across their conference border spending all that money of many renovations, and they can't even spend what they want to on their crown jewel, which is the football stadium.

So basically the fans of the original 10 SEC members want to expand westward. New members (sans South Carolina) want to expand east. I wonder why.

I doubt the SEC goes any further north east. The ACC is a strong league. Much like the last expansion, the SEC will likely go west again. The Big 12 is in shambles and Texas will end up going independent when all is said and done.

The part that sucks, is that Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State are going to be left in the cold when all is said and done. IMO.

Agreed and I think it could happen if the ACC ever made a major change that would void their agreement that says schools can't leave without paying a huge penalty.

OU and OSU heading to the Pac 12 could trigger the ACC to try and grab a Texas school and Kansas or something which could open the door for the SEC to backchannel with VT and NC St.

If NC St wouldn't come I think ECU would be a decent addition, they are a more competitive football school than SC was when we added them (but their academics are pretty horrid).

You don't take an ECU when you have Kansas, Kansas State, TCU, Baylor, etc. on the table to take.

ECU is lower tier academia and is dreadful in most sports. There is no value in their addition to the league.

I still think OU and OSU are the first offers. If they decline, you go after TCU/Baylor or the Kansas schools.

The SEC office would probably frick this up and put them in the East and bring over Vandy and South Carolina to the West.

Any chance the SEC could convince OU to leave Ok St and get Kansas with OU?

Even though Kansas is a low population state it would at least add two states to the footprint and obviously Kansas would be HUGE for the conference in basketball.
