wtf are you talking about, you dont have a right to play football. Due process doesnt have a damn thing to do with whether or not a coach can kick a player off for the appearance of evil.

You cannot lose life, liberty, or property without due process of law. As mentioned earlier, there is a question as to whether playing football falls under that umbrella. But while that is relevant to a legal discussion, the philosophy remains the same - are you willing to make a rule that disqualifies someone from playing football because of an accusation of domestic battery? An arrest is not being found guilty, it's not even an indictment (which says there is enough evidence to bring it to trial).

That's just reactionary, and short sighted.

It's the society we live in today my friend. Loud-mouthed SJW's and male hating feminists are taking over social media. If the young man is found guilty then he should definitely be disciplined and the young lady should get the help that she needs. But to crucify the young man and banish him at this point is a bit premature.

For the record, no one's banished him.
He hasn't been disqualified, he's been suspended--which is A&M policy.
Indeed there are two sides to every story; his version will be heard.
This isn't an athletic department inquiry, Brazos County is investigating.
If he's innocent, he won't be hung out to dry by the team.
If he's not ... bye.

Can you imagine the precedent if schools started kicking guys off the team just for an accusation?

There would be no football. Every player with a crazy ex would be kicked off the team.

I'm talking about some of the keyboard warriors out there that act as judge, jury, and executioner. Not accusing anyone here of doing that.

So Sumlin has had 25 arrests in five years, and in response, aggy posts graphic that shows Mack Brown's teams with 16 arrests in 10 years.

WINNING!

Sumlin's assistants are probably going to work some of this story into their comedy routine at next year's Chalk Talk. Whoop!

The philosophy doesn't remain at all the same. Read the book "Missoula" by John Krakauer. It talks about the tension regarding rape on college compuses, and how dean's arguably have a duty to protect their students against rapists -- one that doesn't require any sort of criminal standard.

The "philosophy" to me is simple.

1) If you are going to put someone in prison, you need to prove your case beyond a reasonable doubt. Rigid due process applies.

2) If you are going to kick someone off the football team, you have to have a reasonable belief that he is bad for the team. You don't have to be right. You have to just be reasonable about it. No due process applies.

In every state in the south, and Texas specifically, an employer can make a decision to terminate an employee based solely on an arrest. Same principle should apply here.

An employer is well served to dig a bit and find out the underlying facts of the arrest, but if the employer feels that the conduct of the employee is such that he should be fired, the employer does not have to wait until a conviction occurs.

And the only reason he needs to do that is to avoid the appearance or race or other discrimination.

The good news is that aggy season tickets are still available (shaded areas), two weeks before kickoff!

Brainwashed aggy, support your team while they bust rocks in the Brazos County Jail!

Aggy fans are the most wonderful in the world!

We'd sell out if the game was held in a parking lot! (Didn't sell out Arizona State game last year in Houston).

We Rule This State (Penitentiary)!

c'mon. I don't think pushing her, if it's his first offense should get him thrown off the team. he didn't hurt her nor did he strike her.

I think zero tolerance is an overreaction. each case merits an individual look. now, if he pushed her over the balcony, punched her in the face, etc that's a different story.

next thing you know, verbal abuse will be included in this stupid "zero tolerance" attitude.
