Zero tolerance should be the policy

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M junior linebacker Josh Walker was arrested Friday night on charges of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, and interfering with emergency requested for assistance, according to the Brazos County sheriff's office.

Walker is being held at Brazos County Detention Center in Bryan, and bond has been set at $9,000. Walker, 20, was booked a little after 10 p.m. Friday.

An athletic department spokesman said Walker has been suspended immediately per A&M athletic department policy.

According to Corporal Matthew Alaniz of the College Station Police Department, Walker pushed his girlfriend in their apartment on Friday afternoon, "Causing her to fall into a child's rocking chair ... She fell on the rocking chair, causing some bruising and a pretty good knot on her hip."

Alaniz said the girlfriend "tried calling 911 on her phone" but Walker grabbed it out of her hands. He then gave her his phone to call 911, but took it away and put it in his pocket, the officer said. Walker failed to hang up the call, however, and the dispatcher "could hear them arguing," Alaniz said.

The couple’s child was in the apartment but was not involved in the assault, according to police. Walker was cooperative with officers when they arrived, Alaniz added.

These coaches like Mullen and probably Sumlin now, enable this behavior.

1 strike and you gone from college athletics

Solid factual statement right there.

If Walker assaulted his girlfriend, no one disputes that he needs to be shown the door.

You do realize that a "zero tolerance" policy based on being ARRESTED for domestic assault is not compatible with "due process", right? Is taking a tough stand on even the accusation of domestic violence important enough to you to throw out constitutionally guaranteed rights?

Agree that if he is guilty, he should be gone.

Also think people who get degrees from a university should actually attend real classes for credits OP.

Which criminals have played at A&M? You seem to know of a lot.

I don't think a player has a constitutional right to play on a football team. He may have some rights as a student but there shouldn't be anything prohibiting a coach to make disciplinary decisions based on arrests only.

But yeah, there is a conflict. Have to be careful of trumped up charges. I think in most cases involving football players, the opposite is true. Legit charges get dropped or glossed over.

Strong pimp hand. Good trait in a linebacker.

Sounds like they're handling it appropriately until they find out all of the details and ensure its not some BS charge.

Kevin Sumlin STILL hasn't got control of his locker room. Clearly.

IMO you can't kick him off team unless he's convicted.

There's two sides to every story, and all we have at this point is part of one of them.
