I thought going in LSU would have a good D but not an elite one, I still stand by that. If there were an LSU/Oregon game I think we would need to score a lot of points.

Yeah, it's hard to lose the amount of talent you did and not take a step back. Unfortunately, for the rest of cfb, I think Bama's Defense might be better but the good news is that the oline is a step down.

Good, well thought out OP, but you're missing a major point. The elite SEC teams reload every year from the most fertile recruiting grounds on the planet. There are hiccups for sure, but long-term the SEC's defenses will be elite year in, year out.

I watched the UA/VaTech game and what I noticed was the speed. This UA D is fast, LSU fast, from sideline to sideline and the back 7 coming up to meet the ballcarrier.

And yeah, the OL is a bit down.

Perhaps the SEC's best defenses will be elite compared to the rest of the country, but they have not been annually elite by standard definition.

There were no elite defenses last year. Florida was the only defense that did not have a 400 yard game. All SEC defenses surrendered 21+ points at least once last season.

UF allowed 212 total yds to the Canes...thats it. After the first quarter they gained a grand total of 69 total yards the next THREE QUARTERS.

Cane qb Morris said UF had the best DL he has ever faced...up against a veteran OL the DL of UF just shoved their bowels in...unfortunately our offense was too charitable...but we gained 422 yds.

Id love to have us face the quacks....they would have rude awakening about speed on defense.
