mid 2000's LSU-AUBURN is incredible.

This dude was tough as nails

I thought Brandon Cox's career was over after that hit near the goal line. Dude was probably the toughest QB ever to play at AU.

Because it was defensive holding.

Right.

But focusing on that last play just deflects the discussion from the real problem. Numerous flags and no-calls went against LSU that day. Real obvious things were gotten wrong even on replay. Phantom holds to negate positive plays. Auburn got so many dubious calls going their way that it really is the one game that I believe was rigged.

I think that was the year where both teams were not the same after it. Both squads just beat the hell out of each other.

I remember that play. The pass was tipped and our DB made a hell of a smart play.

I remember the play on Courtney. LSU DB just mugged him.

It was a well officiated game
Exactly right.

And according to this rule it is better to knock down the receivers then tip it rather than catch it because if you catch it it can still be called pass interference.

Not really as you seem to not grasp at the qualifiers and disqualifiers for the penalties

This was a brutal game. LSU doesn't play like that anymore.

auburn fans STILL showing incompetence regarding a PICTURE that clearly shows a penalty (semantics aside). if that play is at all legitimate, then receivers can ALWAYS be tackled/held while the ball is in the air.

there is no justification for that not being a penalty of some sort. it just doesn't exist.

and cam was not an ineligible player.

I got 1996 and 2006 mixed up for some reason. Probably because I can't believe it's been over 20 years since 1996, it feels more like 11 years. But yeah it was Arkie that won the West in 2006.

I remember this game well though. Jamarcus Russell played like shite because the Auburn D wasn't fricking around that day. It was the worst game I ever saw Russell play in college.

Don’t forget Dwayne bowe getting his arms pinned to his side in the end zone for an easy TD ... was hat wasn’t called just before half time. Theball ended up hitting him in the chest

I was at the game. First time I witnessed our eagle disoriented and he flew about 2 feet over my head and out of the stadium for a few seconds. The game itself was the hardest hitting game I have ever seen on the college level and would have led to multiple ejections due to targeting by today's rules. The problem with the officiating in the game was that the crew had no control from the beginning and it led to a style of game that was way too physical between the DBs and WRs on both sides. The decision to pick up the PI flag late was the right call by the rules at the time. The bad part of it was that Doucet was clearly held on the play before the ball was tipped so it should have been first and ten LSU at about AU 20 or so late in 4th qtr. The actual worse call of the game was a slant pass caught by AU receiver who was trying to get to the ground quickly but got rocked which caused him to fumble. Play wasn't reviewed because it looked like WR was sitting on ground when he got hit but he was clearly still up. Either way it was an incredible game and it was a minor miracle that AU finished 11-2 that year because we were never the same after that game. That season is why many AU fans are still enamored with Muschamp. Our defense single handedly won us 11 games although the LSU win cost us a shot at the natty.
