Do you not understand PI?

If a receiver is held while ball is in the air then it’s PI unless the ball is tipped. If the receiver is held and THEN the ball is tipped it is still defensive holding.

I’ll gladly accept correction if I’m wrong.

You can’t mug a receiver then have it wiped away because somebody on your team tipped the ball unless the tip was before the mugging.

Exactly, which is why the PI flag was waived off. Not sure why some of the LSU fans have a hard time with this

Because it was defensive holding.

I love it. So you’re saying that the ref’s were so incompetent that they threw a flag on the wrong penalty but there was still a penalty that happened that they didn’t call?

That makes the claim that the refs were giant frickups even MORE accurate.

BTW, im not sure if they can change their call from PI to defensive holding. Either way there was a penalty that wasn’t called and it happened over, and over in Auburn’s favor.

Defensive holding can only be called before the ball is in the air (QB has to still have possession).

Once the ball is thrown, the only penalty that can be called is pass interference.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Saban was seriously trying to get that type of play removed..

So what you are saying is that on a Hail Mary, when the ball is in the air you can knock down every single receiver on the field and then just touch it and there is no penalty?

I be UT would like to have known that before the Florida game this year

There would be other factors to come into play to make this so and similar, FWIW.

And according to this rule it is better to knock down the receivers then tip it rather than catch it because if you catch it it can still be called pass interference.

I’m going to need a link for this no defensive holding while the ball is in the air.

Try this.

I would link the official NCAA rule book, but those don't appear to be available on line.

Yet another "lifelong" bama fan that actually started watching around November 2009.

This is the only game I have ever watched where I was convinced the game was rigged. There was no way the refs were going to let Auburn lose.

So Tom Ritter loves Auburn? That's a good one. I think Nick Fairley would disagree...and Sammy Coates, Carl Lawson, Will Muschamp...
