What is it about Alabama's culture that makes its bad fans the craziest?

One of the main themes on this board after the teabagger, Updyke, the Texas A&M flag lunatic, the broad jumping on the people at the game, etc. is that those people don't represent the Alabama fanbase as a whole. That is correct, I can attest that Alabama has many nice fans who are normal, well-adjusted people.
That being said, if we were ranking the terrible individuals in all SEC fanbases individually, how many spots would be filled by sidewalk Bama fans as the worst before you got to an individual in another fanbase? 10? 20? 50? What is it about Alabama specifically that either attracts or creates these ingrates? Is it the Penn State like hero worship? The lack of a natural pro team? Or is it something more subtle like frontrunners are all terrible, and Alabama attracts all of the most pathetic and stupid among them?

Lack of education and an influx of grease

Their lunatics put so much energy into their delusions of invincibility, that when they lose, everything they have held onto, comes crashing down. They have nothing else but to lash out in some manner

To make a political analogy, Obama claimed rural folks cling to guns and religion because they don't have anything else going for them. That was a rude and elitist comment to make, but it wasn't entirely untrue.
Similar thing here. The truly insane Alabama fans you encounter, whether Updyke or the gas station clerk who thinks she's better than you because she pulls for the Tide and you don't, tend to lack a lot of other positive things in their life. Winning championships for the Tide is their God. I'm not kidding when I say I think there are redneck, gay-hating Tide fans who would perform sex acts on Saban if asked.

When Alabama football had its first success in the 1920's, folks in Alabama (and the rest of the South) had very, very little to hang their hats on. The South was viewed (rightfully, perhaps) as a backwater cesspool with little to offer the country.
Lo and behold, a team of Alabama crackers goes out to Pasadena and beats a vaunted West Coast team (Washington, I believe). For the first time in a long time, Alabamians had something to take pride in.
The continued success of the football program, coupled with a dearth in progress in other areas, ensured a fanatic devotion and love of the game of football. Although Alabama and the South in general have made tremendous strides in the past 80 years, the lingering attachment to football still remains.
Plus, we have no professional teams.

Wording that as if to indicate there is only one was a good gesture on your part.

None of that, no matter how true or false explains why Alabama has a large segment of maladjusted idiots who do the craziest things in sports. It is the kind of stuff people laugh about happening in mideast sports or South American sports. Where do these attitudes come from? Are their poor and stupid just the poorest and most stupid. Or is Alabama just the most successful football program with that many poor and stupid fans?

Worthless people get pride from the success of a football team. It truly effects the quality of thier lives to the point where losing makes thier existence even more miserable

I applaud your willingness to engage in objective conversation.

None of those cretins could name 3 LSU players.

Alabama set the benchmark for college football in the South. People gravitate towards that type of success. Unfortunately, that includes the crazies.
