Growing up in Texas, my father was a die hard Longhorn fan. For some reason I enjoyed Rice athletics much better although they are way behind the Longhorns. In the SEC, how is it growing up in Mississippi or Alabama and having to choose?

We can't fault our fathers for their misdirections, we can however make sure those same faults aren't continued through ignorance.

For me - it is tradition - my father/grandfather/uncles all attended Bama and were Greeks - i was expected to do the same, and did - my son will have a choice but will be strongly urged to follow the family tradition.

As he should. Greek life in the SEC holds many positive qualities that outsides are oblivious to due to the stereotypical image of fraternity men.

I don't even consider them to be a fraternity...more like a drinking club. People always look past the good stuff, like how our fraternity raised over 90,000 for charity during one event in one day....How much money have you raised for charity during college?....I'm just curious

Kind of weird. My dad's side all went different directions. My grandpa played football for Southern Miss, both my uncles went to MSU, my great uncle played football at Ole Miss, and my dad went to Millsaps. I never knew my great uncle as he died in 96 when I was young.

My dad had enrolled to MSU and changed his mind at the last minute. Went to Ole Miss med school across the street from Millsaps and then had me. Decided to be a fan of Ole Miss or Millsaps and stuck with Ole Miss. Never missed a home football game, while living 7+ hours away. Years later, my older sister played tennis for OM and when deciding, I didn't even apply anywhere else.

Sort of both in my case.

I was born and raised in Arkansas and surrounded by Hog fans, but I was raised by a single mother who wasn't a big sports fan. She was a casual football fan who liked the Hogs, but it wasn't a big deal in our house. I was hooked on college football as a kid, sort of became a Hog fan by happenstance because we don't have a pro team, and ended up attending and graduating from the U of A, which cemented my fandom.

I didn't even know both of my grandfathers were big Hog fans and former season ticket holders until I was well into my teens and had been a fan for years.

Third generation Reb, parent is in OM HoF, all my friends were Ole Miss fans, and I started going to games in Oxford and Jackson since I could walk. There wasn't any other choice.

Both. College fan hood is kind of all over the place in my family. We are all dispersed across the country, so I have everything from USC to Mich State to Texas A&M fans. Personally, I grew up a Texas Longhorns fan, then when I made my college decision to attend Georgia, it changed everything and I've been all UGA ever since. My immediate family has followed down the red and black path. Thanksgiving usually produce some solid SEC/B1G banter.

How the hell did you grow up in Texas and become a Rice fan by choice?

I guess I was always a Georgia fan...I could have gone elsewhere but there was no reason to waste my parents money by going out of state to an equal or worse school

Charlie Conerly and Barney Poole.

Two Ole Miss legends. Jake Gibbs and Archie Manning started playing football because of Charlie.
