As a young boy in the late 60's when I first got into football and sports, I enjoyed listening to the Tulane Fight Song on the Jim Pittman show Sunday mornings, and Lindsey Nelson for ND.
Then came Oct. 25, 1969 when my Dad and I drove up Airline Highway to Baton Rouge to see my first LSU game in Death Valley and watch the Tigers beat Auburn 21-20. I was hooked.
12 years later I entered Louisiana State as a freshman, graduating in '84. I have had royal purple blood and old gold veins ever since.

How I felt about my dad being an FSU fan when I started watching.

Additionally, almost my entire family is from east TN. Thank god I made the right choice.

Tradition for me. My father graduated from LSU and then worked his entire career for LSU Cooperative Extension Service.

His grad school choice came down to LSU or Arkansas. I think Arkansas accepted him first so, for a bit, he and mom were considering the move but then LSU came through and he stayed in state.

I was given Alabama clothes as a child.

I outgrew those things physically and whatnot

Choice. Didnt root for any team growing up. I was accepted to Tennessee, Auburn and Bama. I chose Bama because it blew the other schools out of the water. I knew I was going to Bama the minute I stepped on campus.

Both. My dad is an Aggie and my mom a Michigan Wolverine, so I grew up rooting for both.

Chose to go to TAMU.

I cant speak for Mississippi, but in Alabama, you dont get to choose. Your family is either white trash redneck gomer bama fans who work at a tire store, gas station, the chicken plant or Wal*Mart, or you were lucky and grew up an Auburn fan where a college education is real and an actual white collar job is standard.

Born in Jackson Miss to state grads/fans. Moved to Birmingham in elementary school. When it came down to choice of colleges I chose Bama over State and Auburn. It was all my choice and my parents were ok with it.

This is actually quite heroic considering the natural suck pulling you toward Mississippi mediocrity. At least you were able to dig your heels in and resist before you got pulled back over the line.

Bama was an upgrade. Not a great life upgrade, but an upgrade. Considering the Mississippi heritage, good on ya.

I guess it was an upgrade. Grew up in decent size house in Madison and went to one of the best private schools in the state(in before Mississippi school joke). Say what you want about some of the "over mountain schools" in Birmingham but I went to an equally good school in both states. Also, a lot houses in vestavia/homewood/mt brook are a little to old for my liking but it is what it is. To say I made an upgrade is an understatement with college. I'll take my accounting undergrad and masters degree from bama any day over Auburn. Not saying auburn has a bad business school but it was clearly in my best interest to attend Bama and has worked out tremendously

Tradition. My mother went to UA and my dad grew up a lifelong fan. It was only natural that I follow.

I grew up in a family of State fans but chose to be an Ole Miss fan because my mom was the only Ole Miss fan in my entire family. And every time State would beat us in something they would gang up on her. So I decided to be an Ole Miss fan so she wouldn't be alone.

Some of my fondest memories growing up were going to Dudy Noble for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon game with my dad. Until probably 2010 I had been to more State football games than Ole Miss football games.

I'm only the second person to ever graduate from Ole Miss in my family.

Dad and all his siblings were API/AU grads, going back to my Uncle Herb who started in '48. And when my maternal grandfather retired from GA Tech after a long illustrious career in the mid '60s, he taught a couple of classes at AU at the request of a friend in the Engineering school.

I was the first of my generation to graduate from AU, followed by many cousins (and now their kids) in the years since.

So....
