I would imagine most people in the deep south start out liking the team their family does.

Doesn't one lead to the other ?

I've been in TS, the PMAC & the Box since I was 3. I bleed P&G but I still choose, as an adult, to be a Tiger fan through thick and thin.

My uncle was the same way. He grew up in the Baton Rouge area and chose to go to MSU.

I enjoy it because when State has a bye or is playing an weak OOC team, I always come home and go to LSU games. We have season tickets for shits and gigs. I've been to just about as many LSU games as State games.

Grew up in Austin.
Couldn't stand the thought of going to school there.
Chose A&M after seeing the bonfire game in 99 despite most of my family being burnt orange.

You choose who you choose. My kids are more than welcome to root for any team they want. My dad was always a huge LSU and Dallas Cowboys fan. I grew up loving LSU, but I always hated the Cowboys. It just never grew on me.

Both my parents went to UGA so I didn't really have another choice. My brother ended up at Ole Miss though so they're definitely softening to the Rebs. They'll root for them pretty hard when they don't play Georgia. They don't want to see that tuition money go to waste.

My mom's family are all Texans and most are UT vgrads and/or UT fans. Only one Agghie in that family. My dad's family (Queens, LI, NY) are all Notre dame grads and/or fans. When my parents were 42/36 (in 1960), they moved to Baton Rouge, LA (I was 9). It took them only ONE season to convert lock, stock, and barrel to be LSU Tigers. My older sisters and I all have degrees from LSU as do our spouses. We are all LSU fans and we continue to confound both our Texas and New York families with that.

I remember watching Rohan Davey and loved him and the way LSU played defense, that's the origin of my fandom.

(I live in Mississippi and have always hated Ole Miss.)

Choice. Moved to Alabama at the ripe old age of seven - from Tallahassee via Georgia.

Seems like most people had a choice. I imagined most families in the SEC "forced" their sons and daughters to follow tradition. To me though, the best fans are those who follow a team because they choose to. Although, I have seen some crazy families that are literally all fans of the same team and dare anyone in the family to root for another team.

Starts as a traditions but can devolve into a choice. Both grandfathers went to LSU and eventually both parents went to LSU both coming from Texas. Having grown up in Baton Rouge, LSU athletics is definitely a high point of my young life. Many great memories in TS, the Box and The PMAC. I decided to go away for college but will always be an LSU fan by choice stemming from tradition.

Grew up near Baton Rouge, dad was recruited by LSU, entire family is LSU fans, so it wasn't much of a choice for me.

Choice. Both my parents are UNO grads, and my dad went to LSU for professional school.
