Would they be a football program on par with LSU (and by inference Florida, UGA, Bama)? How much better than the middle tier Arkansas and South Carolina level programs of today would they be?

Mississippi is incredibly talent rich - the state population is smaller (2.9 million vs 4.5 in LA) but the per capita talent is ridiculously good.

RE: the nickname? I like Pedo Reb.

I don't see how they wouldn't be. We would have the same amount of students, alumni, money, attendance, etc as all the big places, and we would be focused on football in a talent rich state, surrounded by talent rich states.

Not computing.

But to answer your question I think Mississippi State would be a lot better if they didn't have to recruit against Ole Miss, but don't forget they have Southern Miss to deal with as well.

It would be on the level of LSU and Bama pretty easily IMO.

Once every 10 years steals a good recruit from OM and State and it's because he couldn't get into either school.

Data is a little old, but Louisiana and Mississippi are consistently 2 of the top 3, and often the top 2 in this category.

Arkansas has a far smaller percentage of...uh...those who run well...within our borders than Mississippi.

UF, UGA, and bama all share a state with another major football team. GT to a lesser extent, but they still get players. Florida has to go against two powerhouses in state.

I agree that the single Miss college may recruit better, but the examples are poor. Arkansas and Ped State would be more applicable.

I think they would be a 8-10 wins a year kind of team. On a good year they would be in the Cap One Bowl. They would be very solid with a chance to compete for the division around once a decade. That is a vast improvement for both schools.

If you combine the miss st and ole miss football teams, they are still at best 4th in the west

Care to explain Arkanas' success in Track and Field then? What about basketball (that requires ...those who run and jump well)?

That was very kind of you to include UG so that they don't get their Chiweenies all ruffled.

yeah

Louisiana would have an edge because they are about 50% larger... but MS has great talent

Texas has a smaller...uh...percentage of said individuals within our border. Would A&M benefit from being the only D-1 program in Texas?

I want to know what the numbers look like for Mississippi without using JuCos.

With the right coach I think it could be on LSU level. It would be a very solid program though that could contend for the NC in it's good years
