"Well, I'm just a very unhealthy Alabama fan," he says. "I live it. I breathe it. I think about Alabama football, I'm not exaggerating, 18 hours a day. I have always been that way. It just didn't start. That's what people don't understand. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is get on Tiderinsider and see what's going on. I mean, I know it's not healthy. I've been knowing that a long time. I have a daughter 33 years old named Crimson Tyde."

After all, he'd struck a blow against the enemy. He was surprised to find the opposite was true, with Tide for Toomer's raising money on Facebook, with former Alabama players calling him horrible names, with Saban writing a check to help try and save the trees.

"It hurt my feelings," he says.

Pffffttt bahahahaha

In all seriousness though, this thing's really not gonna set in for me until they have to cut the trees down.

Seeing that on campus is probably gonna turn me a little Updyke ish.

They only difference is that I will want to head to Dadeville, not T-town for revenge.

I actually feel bad for him cause he has obvious mental issues. Dont think he should serious time in prison. No more than 6 months.

I agree when he says he'll probably do more time than the AU players that did an armed robbery and IMO that's not right.

Just another blatant hypocrisy in our justice system. I've seen murderers do 18 months while people like Marion Jones do 2 years for lying.

To be honest with you, I didn't know a whole lot about Toomer's Corner. I knew all about Auburn, but didn't know anything about these trees.

This guy's bullshite is legendary. Toomer's Corner is synonymous with Auburn.

A couple of supportive comments in the comments section for Updyke's actions.

USF_Football (5/23/2011 at 11:50 AM) Report Violation Al from Dadeville rocks... Your passion is what makes the South so awesome. I'm glad you never took back your actions in the article. You truly despise Auburn and that is commendable. I hate the University of Florida to the point where I won't drink Gatorade and would never sleep with a UF coed. The district attorney in Alachua County tried nailing me for a prank we played on their school in 2001 (we tagged over 2,000 cars - including campus police cars - and multiple buildings on their campus in one two hour period). You are legendary in my book Al. And on Saban giving a check to Auburn... it was the PC thing to do. The other liberal 'Bama pansies that donated to the cause... they spent more time in the library then they did rooting for the Tide. You'll always have a faction of fans that just don't care about the university that much. You are #1 in my book... Good luck on avoiding jail time. I'm sure someone will be able to get you the Ole Miss-'Bama tickets you need. Some of us support your actions. They are trees, not people. For you Al... Roll Tide!

Go Bulls...

and this bit of support from a Red Sox fan..

Redsoxnationeer (5/23/2011 at 12:41 PM) I applaud this man. This is what happens when you prank the wrong type of person. Cam Newton jersey on the Bryant statue, so this guy says laugh at this. Grant it this guy may have a few loose screws but this guy stood for what he believed in. And like I grew up to learn "If you dish it, you better be able to take whatever comes back at you." In other words you may think it's funny or fun but some people will take offense, and you better be able to take the things that the offended people have to do/say.

Like it or not bama fans but this man is the face of the Bama Nation. He is saying things in this article that the bama fans have been screaming about Cam and AU's BCSNC all year. He sounds alot like Moore, McNair, Redfish, Orr and 90% of the bammer posters on this site. It is easy for the educated bama fans to disown Harvey Updyke, but great minds do think alike.

We walk out of the famous catfish place, me, Harvey Updyke and Al from Dadeville, all of us headed to the parking lot that runs out to the swamp. Al asks me again about cheap tickets to the Ole Miss-Alabama game. Harvey tells me to drive safe on my way home.

We're about to part ways, me back up the road, Updyke on a different path, one that seems likely to be leading to prison. He loved a football team so much he ruined his life. I tell him to be careful. He nods and opens his car door.

"There's nuts on both sides," he says. "I guess I'm one of 'em."

1. Do not refer to it as Bama Nation. I hate that nation crap. Leave it to fanbases with little pride and tradition and resort to calling themselves a nation to form a sense of relevancy in their lives.

2. You're an ignorant dipnozzle for even suggesting that one irate fane is the face of a program.

3 if you insist on him being the face of bama, then Tammy is the face of AU!!

Response from Auburn fan:

creed1970 (5/23/2011 at 11:45 AM) Report Violation Ok for all of you that think this is ok and it was just trees I say all of you go around your town and poison trees owned by the city and do as much damage as you can to things that according to the people that laugh and think this is a joke feel free just do what you want it is fine and then when you are caught don't get a lawyer just go to court laugh and joke about it and see where that gets you.

creed1970 (5/23/2011 at 11:41 AM) Report Violation Bama fan3128 so keeping a tally UAT now has more titles that trailers after the tornado's came through and finished what AU didn't have time to finish after the Iron Bowl huh?

Pure Auburn class with the Auburn Creed referenced in his screen name.

Oh, this guy is the face of the Auburn nation and the Auburn Nation is heartless and cruel. After all, the actions and feelings of one fan characterize the entire fanbase. Right?
