The big difference is that the masses think like Updyke.

And the AU masses think like Tammy, I-Man, Charles and Cock-Fighter. What's your point?

The guy is that obsessed with bama and didn't go to a game until 2009?

When he was 19, he ran onto the field at the Bluebonnet Bowl, carrying a roll of toilet paper and a box of Tide.

Harvey Updyke was 3 years old when his dad was killed by a drunk driver. His mom met a man, and they all moved from Texas to Milton, Fla.

only became a fan because of bear bryant when they were good?
quote:

Seven years later, Updyke sat in front of the television when the "Bear Bryant Show" came on. Maybe he just really liked football. Maybe he was desperate for a man to replace his father. "I was 10 years old," he says. "I was laying there watching the 'Bear Bryant Show.' Golden Flake and Coca-Cola was the sponsor.

Maybe his dad was a womanizing, wife-beating drunk, or either young Harvey just liked Golden Flake potato chips and coca-cola.

He just doesn't get it...

quote:

He begins rattling off pranks. Texas A&M fans stealing the Texas Longhorn and branding it with a score of a game, and Texas rebranding the word "Bevo" over it, hence the mascot's name. Army-Navy, he says, and a kidnapped goat that was painted pink. One that Rice pulled on Texas.

"What do you think is different?" I ask.

"Me, personally," he says, "I don't think it's a whole lot different."

I don't know what to say at first. I look across the table and decide he's serious.

"Except they didn't shoot Bevo," I say, finally.

Al from Dadeville blows right through that.

"They already knew the trees were dying," he says. "Every time they throw toilet paper in there, they take a high pressure water sprayer and wash if off. That's also killing the trees."

I ask if he understands why so many people are mad.

"I get it," he says. "I understand completely why they're pissed. You know, they've been s---ting on Bear Bryant's grave for 30 years. That's a felony, and they're not doing anything about that. They vandalized Nick Saban's lake house. Painted it orange and blue."

Anyone got proof that either of those things involving the Bear and Saban have happened? First I've heard of them.

quote:

"I'll be honest with you," he says. "If an Auburn fan had destroyed Bear Bryant's statue and the guy is 62 years old and is in real bad health, I swear to God, I would not expect and would not want him to go to prison. Probation, five years. Ten years. Replace it. A thousand hours of community service."

Statues can be replaced. So can trees, but trees take a lil more time.

Of course not. And his last quote about someone destroying Bear's statue? This dumbass poisoned the trees after someone pissed him off on a radio call-in show. If an Auburn fan destroyed Bear's statue, Updyke would go Jack Ruby on them...and then expect the entire Bama fanbase to honor him as a hero.

Saban briefly mentioned on a call in show that his house in Georgia had been tp'd and painted (he didn't say when or provide any more details). Some bama fans expanded on that and claimed that furniture was destroyed and the paint was orange and blue. Obviously the desire for the paint to be orange and blue was so they could blame Auburn fans. The story has been repeated so often by Bama fans, that they now claim it as a verifiable fact despite the inability to verify it.

He's insane! He does not need to be walking around on the streets for the very reason you stated. No one wants him going "Jack Ruby" on folks ~ and he's insane enough to freaking do it. He's a danger to society. Send his arse to the mental ward of the nearest state hospital.

Honestly the first time I heard about that incident, I thought it was a Gator fan that did it (orange/blue.) And, at the time they had a much bigger beef with Saban and Bama than y'all did. Hell, we made Tebow cry on national TV.

I seem to remember something about Saban's house in Alabama being a target of vandalism a few years ago.

quote:

The Tuscaloosa police responded to a call placed by Terry Saban Sunday morning after Alabama lost it's sixth straight to Auburn.

Aparently someone tried to egg the Head Coaches home. Police found an empty egg carton on the ground outside Saban’s house. It seems that 2 eggs hit Saban’s house, 3 eggs went over his house and hit his neighbor’s back door, 2 hit his neighbor’s house to the left, 2 hit his neighbor’s house to the right, and 3 were found broken on the ground near where the carton was located. After seeing all this, the police have named their number one suspect as John Parker Wilson.

I wouldn't go that far. He knew what he was going was wrong. He has serious anger issues, but I wouldn't go far enough to say he's insane.
