I get that, and not to be misunderstood, I'm not saying the poster's opinion is bullshite. I'm saying this narrative to hype current fruits of MS football is bullshite. Akers is an amazing talent, I won't hesitate to label him as one of the best athletes we've ever had. But I think it takes a whole lot of overlooking the last 30 years to say "the" best.

I've heard guys like Rick Cleveland say that. I've also heard guys name their top prospect as pretty much any of the ones I listed earlier.

Norwood rushed for 2,878 yards his senior season at Brandon, and IIRC he played RB that year. You're also comparing a 4 year starter to a guy who had all but 1k of his 8k total yards in his junior and senior seasons.

He also averaged 46.9 yards per kick return.

You don't have to agree but I'm not being biased in this case, and I'm not the only person who will tell you that Norwood was incredible.

I mean, those two comments aren't mutually exclusive.

Edit: Damn it, missed where you said that. My bad I misunderstood the last post.

That was on 6 total returns, that's kind of misleading.

Ok, Cam had 3K more yards than Norwood in his Junior and Senior year.

When you average almost 50 yards a return teams stop kicking to you.

I think the Clarion Ledger did rank Tig the best player of the 2000's.

The claim was "best looking RB recruit out of MS since Marcus Dupre".

Norwood rushed for 1,000 more yards his senior year. When we are comparing RB talents I really don't care that Cam is a great passer.

. And perhaps you are harping too much on the RB aspect of it. He's regarded as perhaps the greatest HS player ever in MS

So by an eye test, without tangible metrics, he's the best MS recruit ever. By that criteria I label Sorant as the best non-specific MS competitive prospect of all time.

Do you care Cam had a higher yards per carry average?

His stats are the tangible metrics. The people who have followed MS football closer than you and I have are the ones saying he's the best they've seen.

I dont know. I dont watch HS football. All I am arguing are these points...

Cam is regarded one of the best players ever, not RB specifically, which seemed to confuse you.
Cam has better stats than your pick in Norwood
This is an opinion not established by OM fans but people who cover HS football in MS.

You're the one who got off topic with this, not me. I directly replied to a claim that he was the best RB recruit since Dupre.

Again, apples to oranges. Myles Brennan has over 16,000 total yards, his stats are better than Cam's. That doesn't mean he's a better HS recruit. That being said, comparing Norwood's season rushing total to cams isn't a direct comparison either, nor is comparing their YPC. Different offenses and different roles, not to mention different eras.

Fair enough, but it's still an eye test. And I'm more than willing to concede how athletic he is, someone with his skill set being able to play QB like he does is pretty crazy. My point is that he isn't the first with insane athleticism. He does happen to be the most recent, and is a wet dream for today's HS offensive schemes. It's pretty hard to compare that to even a decade ago, when most offenses in the state were still pounding it down the field in Power I.

I know people who played with Dupre. He was just an absolute freak of nature. He also went to the highest bidder

I'm not sure why anyone would argue with the one MSU fan attempting to label a MSU RB as the greatest he has ever seen....uh ok.

Akers is listed as the #1 RB and has a shot if the all American week goes well of becoming the #1 overall player period...

There is nothing to debate.
