It was 18 when I came of age. Of course, people weren't as uptight in those days about drinking/drugs. You could easily buy booze or get into a bar at the age of 16.

It was 18 in the late 70's and early 80's in Georgia. It was 19 in Alabama when I was in school at Auburn.

Sorry boys we fricked that up for you...but it was fun.

Should be 19 to drink, 20 to buy, and 0 tolerance until 21+ IMHO.

If you are ok enough to choose the leader of the free world. Go to war or sign 10 years if your life away on a house or car note then you oughta be trusted to drink. By the laws that are already in place we are saying that 18 yr olds are adults. So treat them like adults or raise everything to the age u think an adult is. If that's 21 then u oughta have to wait til ur 21 to grab a rifle an die. But that will never change Bc they will never convince a 21 yr old todo the dumb shite an 18 yr old would do in war. Let's be honest. I say 16 w supervision 18 by yourself. Take the taboo out of drinking and it's not a problem. Just like most European countries

Then you wouldn't have made that comment.

Lemme guess, you're socially liberal and financially conservative? Right on, bro. You represent one of the laziest 'intellectual' trends in America.

Funny I thought it was 18 still. When I was at LSU it was 18. You can vote at 18, die in war at 18, I agree make it 18.

and I'm 58 and don't drink

If it was 18 then 16 year olds would all have fakes.

As it is now you have to be a mature looking 18-20 year old to have a fake that works.

The Saudi Illuminati Elites have a wet dream of lowering the drinking age -- that's exactly what they want you to think so you won't think about the thermite.

Agreed it should be 18. In fact I don't think there should be an age at all. Let the parents enforce it. Not the govt.

Wow. First response out of the gate!

Yup, having it at 21 only encourages binge drinking as they don't learn to drink responsibly when they're teenagers

If you start drinking around 16-18 you'll be more ready to handle alcohol when you're older

Never. This is a nation of backwards prudish fools.

Bat shite crazy terrorist groups like MADD and One Million Moms would cause too much of a stir for our dumb frick politicians.

If we took more of a European approach to drinking, there wouldn't be nearly as much binge drinking and people would be far less crazy when they get a few beers in their system.

It's a 3 year difference, and very few people actually wait until they are 21 to start drinking.

You just described the problem with lowering the age perfectly, though. Drinking age was 18 when I was 14, and getting drunk was easy. I couldn't buy it, but getting a 17-yr old with a fake ID to buy it for us was never a problem.

No it's not. No one is talking about drinking heavily at 16, but when kids are used to having a little booze they're not nearly as likely to binge drink and abuse it.

In many parts of Europe, children are given watered down wine with their meals from a very young age. Those same countries have a much lower rate of alcoholism and drinking to get drunk.
