The Columbus one bugged me the most. When the teach said that Columbus discovered America I raised my hand and asked if that didn't come as shock to the 20 million people already here. She sent me to the principle's office.
Principle told me to quit harassing the teacher and sent my to my next class

I believe Japanese actually, and there's proof of some Japanese interference in the southwest as well. It's still crazy how little we actually know.

Well Asians/Pacific Islanders got to Hawaii at some point. Makes sense that they would keep going.

No it was more like 3rd or fourth. I don't know if it was the first time I heard that (probably not). I was always getting sent to the office for being a smartass. I peaked early

There was a Baptist church in town that was always trying to get books removed from the school library though.

We had a big controversy in middle school over a language arts teacher that kept a shelf in her room of "Commonly Banned Books" (none were officially banned in the school system at the time).

The parents who challenged it felt pretty fricking stupid when she presented copies of her syllabus/class rules that she asked them to sign. It had a small portion that specifically asked for permission to allow their child to read those books if they wanted on "reader's choice" days or during "down time" in the classroom (i.e. if you finished a test early).

Something similar happened with me as well in US history.

Their books were so far behind the current encyclopedia Britannica in the school library it was hilarious.

My pop was a professor at the local college and he would always give me something that would put my teachers in a conundrum.

Not much love between the public higher learning institutions and the K-12 bunch.

Girls can't get pregnant if they on top because of gravity. That is false information right there.

Yes.

I did have a great US History teacher in HS who regularly shite on the concept though. And parlayed it into watching Last of the Mohicans.

Had a great history teacher who did the same. The guy was hilarious and still my favorite teacher to this day. He actually opened up a forum for kids from the 10th-12th grades. It started off well, but then hilarity and debauchery ensued. After using it as a forum to online gamble and talk mad shite about how fat one of the coach's wife was (among other things), the principal made him shut the site. Lasted about 5 months and was fricking hilarious.

My science teacher was a christian who taught evolution. Was really a great class.

I would say thr biggest lies were that algebra would be useful, FDR's policies ended the great depression, that Kennedy was just friends with Marilyn Monroe and all those ladies, and that marijuana would ruin my life.

I use algebra every day at work.

And while FDR's policies didn't single-handedly end the Great Depression, they certainly helped. WW2 probably did more though.

Lies My Teacher Told Me

James Loewen has some excellent books with very thorough research that pretty much proves that History education in America is half-assed at best and students are spoon fed convenient truths because it is simply less time consuming, less confusing, and adheres to the Americanism way we have all been raised (i.e. that America has maybe had a couple of small hiccups but ultimately is always in the right). Would highly recommend reading this one in particular if you haven't already.
