I'd say that in Texas, all of Arkansas except the MS-adjacent counties, grits are a rarity.

Yeah, that's true. I mean, I'm not unfamiliar with them. Spent part of my childhood years in MS and was born in Alabama, but never developed a taste for 'em. I don't hate 'em, but I'm never thinking "oh I gotta get me some grits," whenever I'm in the deep south.

I like them just fine but don't go out of my way to have them.

This is how I feel, although a well-done shrimp & grits is hard to beat.

I dislike a lot of foods most people like for some reason. It's not really a yankee thing. Want me to really upset you?

I don't like cheesecake or pie either.

South Carolina must be the Grits capital of the world. They are served everywhere. Not just for breakfast. There is hardly a restaurant that doesn't serve shrimp n grits.

I'd say that in Texas,

Grits are extremely common on breakfast menus east of I-45.

Oh, and you eat them with butter, salt, and the hot sauce of your choosing. Never with anything sweet, although my grandmother used to mix grape jelly into hers.

Lived most of my life in Georgia and still go back there a few times a year. I do not eat grits. They are quite nasty.

I like grits a lot, especially when topped with brisket or hogs head cheese.

From Georgia, and had never heard of putting sugar in grits until I lived in Arkansas. That's the only way anybody out there ate them (at least the people I knew).

Guess it's what you grew up with. Putting sugar in grits just seems weird to me.

And you're running around in threads calling me boring.

Grits are good but they have to be fixed right. And none of that instant shite. Shrimp and grits are probably my favorite. One of the breakfast places here has a sausage, cheddar. pico de gallo, and poblano pepper deal that is really good.

I didn't eat them for a long time though, since they're not terribly big here in Northern KY. Which is odd given you can't really go anywhere that doesn't carry sweet tea, we have a love for fried chicken, and there's lots of good Southern food places even in the city.
