Here's an idea... Maybe it's not so much about the money you make at your job and more about the decisions you make outside of the job that impact the money you make. Don't live outside your means and that includes decisions you make that are not directly financial.... Bros.... and bras.... Live smarter.

Companies are paying no taxes and take welfare that far surpasses the cost of food stamps while raking in jaw dropping profits.
What is quoted above is a half truth, when the full truth is considered an entirely new image appears.

Damn, guess I should get a second job on top of my burger flipping job. Thanks for the heads up!

No, of course I don't. I need that cashier a lot less than the teenager or the mom who started this thread needs that job. What thread is your brain in?

.... why don't you go start a small restaurant on your own and compete with all the big franchises. I dare you to open a small time hardware or grocery store in a town near a wal-mart, k-mart, home depot, or lowes
In 2005, I left a larger company and started my own business. It's a service business and I started with 3 customers. I worked 2 part time jobs in addition to getting it off the ground. I still have one of those part time jobs, in addition to my business now, even though it's self sustaining. Why? Because, I'm taking advantage of the stock purchase plan and 401K that it has. I don't "need" it anymore, but it's been nice to have additional money to set back.
I don't bemoan anyone who gets out and works. Lord knows in this day and age it's tough out there. However, when you offer very little skills and do nothing to better one's self... I do have a problem when they start demanding more money, just because of "fairness" and "equality".
Want more? Get off your butts and PROVE why you're worth more. Do that little bit extra to show your boss that you will help the company grow more and earn more. Go to school at night, further your opportunities. Get a part time job.

Absolultely. And there's plenty of opportunity out there to leave a job where they can make it. And if they can't, the American dream can still be had. It's all depending on how smart and hard one wants to work, and if they're willing to risk it on their own initiative.

So, alot of fast food protesters were arrested today...
So much fail and so many misguided thinking.
a) good jobs that used to be in Merica have been shipped to China and India and will not be coming back.
b) going to a plastic society means no green money so no need for cashiers or order takers - only cooks will be needed and years from now even they will be eliminated as robots take those jobs.
c) less local and regional ownership means long term money will flow out of communities to the pockets of few who have staff to cook for them and do not actually eat the product.
The bigger issue is actually getting back to making and selling stuff made in this country as this is where the jobs will come from and the economy will benefit.

This is slowly starting to happen and should be more prevalent in the next two decades. Cheap energy, better infrastructure/workers, and cheaper transportation to the biggest consumer market on earth all serve to put some manufacturing in the United States in the coming years. Look at all of the auto manufacturing popping up in the SE. The industrial investment along the gulf coast. Ect...
The problem is right now there is still a lot of supply still in the labor market and not enough jobs to fill out that demand. So many end up working fast food like a career that would be other places otherwise. Many to be on the government dole, yada yada yada.
The realities of the 21st century economy are causing a reshuffling within every economy and we're not immune. All that being said, I'm incredibly bullish on the next three decades of American growth.

This is the big problem, the same folks bitching about money are watching Chinese tv sets, driving Toyotas, eating Mexican produce, and talking on their Korean phone about why they can not find a job. Unless Americans start making an effort to buy American we are going to continue down the service economy road to the poor house.
Couple this with the fricking horrible personal decision making being subsidized by our government
and you have a recipe for disaster.

I can't even wrap my mind around a fast food worker thinking they do anything that resembles something deserving of making $15/hr.
Maybe not $15 per hour, but someone working a full time job should be making enough to cover basic living expenses. What that amount is, I don't know. It's easy to say fast food jobs should be for high schoolers, but that's not the reality. The median age of non-management fast food workers is around 30. It's also easy to say some make poor decisions in life and live outside of their means. But that's an unfair criticism when you look at middle and upper class credit card debt and bankruptcies. This entire country in every income bracket lives beyond their means.
In summary, it's an issue that needs addressing, but too many people(many in this thread) would rather just laugh it off and demonize the workers.

I would argue, it's a recent phenomena.
How recent? Did you study the Roaring 20's in your history classes? Keeping up the Jonses is pretty much what the entire decade of the Roaring 20's was about. Sure, it exploded in the 80's and 90's when the Baby Boomers started running the show and credit was more readily available, but it's far from a recent phenomenon.

More people would by American if it wasn't vastly inferior across the board.
GM vs. a Toyota? Give me a fricking break.
I bought an American made flat screen a few years back. After a few months the brightness went to shite. I traded it for a Samsung. Not sorry.
Too many American companies feel they have to cut corners just to compete on price. Why not just make a quality product and see how it does?

The good news is that you can start a company and basically have free labor. Just call it unpaid internships.

I wonder why the cost to produce in America is so high compared to others?
