If people only knew what Mexico was like, it'd shine some serious perspective on what racism is.

I don't think anyone is arguing that the USA is more racist than other parts of the world

Doesn't mean we have race relations all figured out, though.

Will race relations ever be all figured out if one seems to be particularly focused on it?

There is more prejudice than racism these days. Everyone does It and always will. If there is a blame for "racism" it's the media's fault.

My main point is that hearing the race card gets old when real racism is actually dying imo. Old people are generally racist but younger generations aren't.

Yes.

They will never be all figured out if they are ignored. Duh

Look, as a minority, there's no other nation I'd rather call home than the USA. I'm sure I speak for 99.9% of minorities when I say that.

But ignoring problems doesn't mean they'll go away on their own, either.

Those terms aren't mutually exclusive, but I hear what you're saying.

Dying, but not dead. And whether the "race card" is "old" or not, doesn't mean there aren't valid concerns. I have just as much a problem with those who try to make everything a race problem as well, but moreso because their carping about non-racist stuff obfuscates actual racial problems that persist to this day.

Not overtly, and not consciously, for the most part. Racism today will never hold a candle to previous generations, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

She's great, thanks for asking! Actually, a little less than great--she misses being home and her BBC fix Actually sending her yet another care package in the morning. Miss her like crazy and can't wait to look her in her beautiful blue eyes in person and not over skype

Neither does highlighting them and dramatically spotlighting the events for numbers.

Racism is good for tv.

I look at videos like these as a desperate saving throw to make sure that it stays alive. I don't know many true racists (even when I was living in southern Georgia) and if I do they are, as you said, older.

White people don't actually care about race for the most part and after years of people basically punishing them/us for being proud of the skin color it's just sort of melted off.

Although I do think racism will be making a trip back as time progresses with the latest incidents.

The bolded is necessary for problems to be identified and change to occur.

The italicized hinders that process.

In the same vein, most black people don't actually blame white people for all their problems, nor are we generally looking to play the racist card.

Too often we see narratives that get played out in dramatic incidents like Ferguson when those are far less common in every day life.

They do tend to focus on race to a higher degree, though. Whether it be pride, shame or blame. I think what needs to be done is a sort of distancing from letting one's race dictate or define oneself.

White people are rarely offended by racial epithets because...well, they don't really attach themselves in that way. I hope I'm being lucid, it's late and I'd love to keep you company in a totally heterosexual way all night but I'm drifting.

Depends on the context. As a minority, you're naturally more acutely conscious of your difference in skin tone/culture/mannerisms/what have you. Has less to do with pride/shame/blame than just dealing with life as a matter of fact as a minority (something I'm sure you can agree with given your current locale).

Much easier said than done, and really only now becoming a prudent choice for minorities. Strength in numbers was essential for survival for so many generations, it becomes engrained in many communities.

More to your point, though, many of our peers are doing exactly that. We joke about how "white" I am, for example, but I really don't have to go far to find another black guy who'll bob his head to a country beat or speaks articulately.

Racial epithets directed towards a majority rarely carry the same weight. I can't even say "cracker" with a straight face N*gger, though, carries far darker connotations.

Still cant believe TBIRD is black..

Tbird I would like to hear about some racist experiences you may of had in your travels.. if its not too sensitive of an issue. Ive seen racism before on both sides but never really experienced it for myself... everyone loves the bdv

IMHO if white folk (me included) would quit acting like they know how black people feel tiptoeing around them and black people would quit listening to AS JJ and Faraconvict and stop thinking all whitey is a klansman we would be better off.... but OBAMA is still a putz

His wife holds his Aggdom against herself enough so you don't have to worry about it. But you gumps sure are forward. Whatever happened to that down south courtship you hear about. Gone with the Wind was only one state over.
