So?
I've never understood why people confuse "peaceful" with "weak and ineffectual."

And as I stated on the previous page, and expected... this will be more about those that don't believe, trying to ridicule or mock, rather than respect someone's beliefs. Par for the course for some.
Gotta agree with this. No need to disrespect someone for their beliefs.
I for one, experienced being saved when I was 16, and I didn't even want it, but my Uncle laid hands on me and prayed, immediately I broke down in an emotional out pour caused by something that was not of my own. I felt bliss and a feeling I have never felt.
Now, several years older, and over the years, I have always questioned what I was brought up to believe, and I come from a very religious background, a family full of preachers on my dad's side and the other half my family are Mennonites.
I knew what I felt that night was something spiritual, and I've rebelled most of my life (drugs, alchohol, etc.,) and I still have questions about it all. I haven't found "the" answer, but I still believe that there is a greater power that is capable of a love that any human, not even the smartest persons in our history, can comprehend it's full power.
I don't have any problems with anyone trying to find the truth about our roots, or how we can be so confused about what happened in the last 2,ooo to 10,000 years, when that's just miniscule on this grand scheme of the history of this earth and the Universe. I love finding out more about this and people challenging these beliefs.
I still know what I felt, though, it was real, and I don't need any book or person to confirm that for me. Basically, just hope people can be more open minded no matter what you believe.
tl;dr

No one really gave a crap about Christianity for about the first 100 years after Yeshua was killed, and no one even wrote anything much about him until about 40 years after he was gone. So, of course, there was a lot of time for legends to be built, for historical accounts to be manipulated, etc. Almost all scholars agree that stories about Yeshua were circulated only in oral form for the first forty years after his death
Very true. This is why I struggle with believing that the Bible is the literal word of God. Written down from oral traditions, by men who explained things to the best of their ability but were hampered by cultural, historical and societal factors. Translated into hundreds of languages over centuries. Selected and arranged at the Council of Nicea by Romans and priests. I can't see any way it's the actual word of God.
quote:
Historians are pretty sure, though, that Yeshua was real. He existed at a time when the outlook was bleak for Jews in Rome, and he was part of a larger tradition of Jewish reformers.
I believe this as well. I've read theories that he was a real man, and a preacher/prophet, disliked by both the Romans and the conservative Jewish leaders. And that his resurrection was an invention of the Romans as a means to solidify support for a single church/religion. Romans were pagans who believed in numerous Gods and Goddesses that were immortal and omnipotent. Convincing them to switch their belief to a mortal man wasn't going to end well, so they made Jesus larger than life and immortal.
In the end though, it comes down to faith. And while the details may be questionable, my faith in God as a higher power capable of miracles and a provider of strength and love has gotten me through many things. "I can do all things through God, who strengthens me" is one of my favorite verses.

It's hilarious to see the hate on Christians.
It's even funnier that your President is arming Syrian rebels who are known Al Queda operatives, and are brutally killing Christian missionaries.
We should all laugh at that.

Semo,
Keep the faith and belief.
I had God save me. It is real. The word is not meant to be easy. Stay strong despite the ridicule that will come your way.
I'm telling you, God saved my life real talk.
He is there.

I can't buy into it. All history books say Roman's were not converted to Christianity until under Constantine's rule. Long after the death of Christ. I'll keep my faith, he can buy into his own notions, spread his beliefs, but it goes against all Roman history books.

How's about this?
I'm a Christian, but I'm not going to go out of my way to shite on athiests and convert y'all.
Just apply the same in reverse and everything's copacetic.
This isn't that hard.

That's great and all but you're just one person.
What about all the inbred rednecks screaming "IT'S MERRY CHRISTMAS" when people try to say Happy Holidays. They act like "atheists" are attacking their religion, when actually the people saying Happy Holidays are just trying to assign equal weight to all the religious holidays surrounding the winter solstice.
When you tell a Christian that other religions have holidays around Christmas, they simply disregard all other religions as false, and everyone that denies Christ is going to hell.

it's called Christmas it's not called Holiday
you wouldn't want someone coming to you on Thanksgiving saying... happy eat like a pig day
no pun

There are other holidays around Christmas, believe it or not.

Because it's absurd when you want to call a Christmas tree a "holiday tree" and shite like that.
And I highly doubt anyone's literally screaming this at you

If you're a Christian, this is what you believe. Don't see the problem.

Again, part of Christianity.
Really just sounds like you have a problem with people saying Merry Christmas
