3)It really kinda shot the Romans in the foot if true. Just saying. The spread of Christ in the Roman dominion did NOT do them any favors. And if so why would they have killed Christians in the Collesium?
Rome was able to use Christianity to stay atop western civ for two millenia

that the author uses to disprove jesus's actual existence
Except he didn't. He contradicted himself several times, attributed writings to the wrong people and his timeline isn't even accurate on many things. And in his defense, he used Wikipedia for his proof. He uses half truths, and flat out lies in his attack on Christianity, much like Bill Maher did in his fictional show Religulous.

Not really.

I tend to just say merry christmas because I really could give a shite less what you celebrate and I don't feel it's my job to remember every person I interact withs religion and winter holiday.
Merry Christmas is my default greeting, too.

As an agnostic I celebrate christmas with absolutely zero religiousness attached. It's a national holiday afterall.
Ok.

If you're talking to a Christian (or someone who celebrates Christmas), call it freaking Christmas. Like I said, it's not that difficult. I have friends of all faiths. Most of them appreciate when I acknowledge their holidays to their face, but don't have a problem with "Merry Christmas."
I can't figure out if you're being intentionally obtuse.

I'm trying to be real with you, Stonehog.
But this thread isn't going anywhere (never was, anyway, given the premise of the OP), so I'll bow out here.

so if i'm walking with my jewish friend and you kind of know him what are the chances you'll know to say merry christmas to me and happy hannakuah to him? slim to none.

most Christians it is. I was raised in church so it's almost like a reflex. I just am completely apathetic towards the whole issue.
fwiw i've also intentionally greeted some people with the wrong holiday just to piss them off for entertainment. the whole thing is ridiculous to me.

Are we talking about Christmas?
I love the holiday. I love the carols, the tree, the green and red sweaters and awkward christmas dinners! If that makes me weird well then ok

I never argued that you should say Happy Holidays to a person you know is a Christian. Saying Happy Holidays
is NOT a slight to Christians, but if you say that to them they act like they're being persecuted by atheists, and then every single year Fox News reports on the War on Christmas.
My problem with Christians is if you try to tell them other religions celebrate holidays around the same time as Christmas, they say "Yeah well Christianity is the only REAL religion so those other holidays don't matter." You already said as much on page 3.
That kind of attitude is bad for society.

The post above you stated that he sometimes did it to antagonize people.

Does that hold true for atheists that use religious holidays to antagonize people who celebrate them? Or towards people that have an intolerance to those who have a religious belief system? This thread continues to become what I guessed it would. A chance to try to mock, ridicule those with faith in religion.

If I'm talking to someone from an African nation, it's Happy Kwanzaa.
Do they just have to be black for you to say this, or actually be from an African nation. Because, being a white man, I would never go up to a black guy and say "Happy Kwanzaa". I'm pretty sure that would be a good way to get an arse kicking.

I'll never understand people being offended by 'Happy Holidays'. Christmas, Yule, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa are all right there together. There's nothing wrong with covering all of your bases.

Dammit, didn't think about that from a white person's perspective

We are aware. I'm sorry you get offended when someone tells you "Merry Christmas". In fact, I'm not, and I may just bookmark this thread so I can wish you a Merry Christmas around the end of December.

Of course. I'm not some blind a-hole that thinks all religious people are bad and all atheists are good.

I don't see that happening in this thread. But I can't say I'm surprised that you feel persecuted by a couple of posters that disagree with you.
It's the War on Alahunter.
