what if our genetically altered food is causing a spike in these cases?

I've wondered about things like this too. Also, we use so many pesticides, and there are so many chemicals and artificial ingredients in the foods many people eat now.

Behavior and communication therapies. Many programs address the range of social, language and behavioral difficulties associated with autism. Some programs focus on reducing problem behaviors and teaching new skills. Others focus on teaching children how to act in social situations or how to communicate better with other people.

Hunh. Sounds a lot like parenting to me.

Yep, which I kind of an area I've tried to read more upon (the food pesticides). Certainly would like to follow it more closely too

Maybe. Then you have some parents that wish their child would speak or show any kind of joy and affection. It's a huge problem. When you can look an child with autism in the eyes, you can see that there is a big disconnect in their brain.

I'm not talking about parents that have a child that truly has Autism. I was speaking more about the parents that have kids that they don't control well and they want to find something to blame it on. So they go get over diagnosed with some very mild form of autism. Those types of parents would disgust me if I was a parent of a child that truly had autism like you are describing. I don't believe 1 in 68 kids really have autism.

Riglet I don't think hunter is saying kids that actually have autism should be cured with a belt. I think he is saying some of this is over diagnosing and the ones that aren't really autistic would be cured with a belt

A couple of folks don't wish to comprehend what I've said and would rather think I mean every child diagnosed.

That's talking about how to manage a child already diagnosed with autism..not what causes autism.

You really are pretty bad at just picking and choosing what to quote.

And it's what parenting requires. Treating autism, is doing parenting stuff. Amazing.

it is easier for the more liberal leaning posters to not comprehend a post. I think it makes it easier to be emotional if you don't comprehend what is actually being said.

They also want to take an anectdotal situation, and apply it universally. Empathy is fine and dandy, but when it gets in the way of simple parenting and contributes to the problems of a child, it's another thing. Is there such a thing as autism? Sure. Are there kids that need help and medication? Of course. 1 in 68? Hell no.

You did say a large portion, to me that means over half. Which i highly doubt.

Also like I said, 1 in 68 don't receive medication. Most probably receive therapy and help.

The problem is you have made the assertion that a majority of the diagnoses are wrong, and haven't provided anything other that your opinion to prove that. Those that disagree with you have conceded there is some over diagnosis of the condition.

yea, i don't see 1 in 68 truly having Autism. that is just a huge number of kids and would mean we have some serious genetic issues in this country.
it is pretty clear that it is a over diagnosed issue. If it isn't a over diagnosed issue then we need to start studying the possible reasons for the spike in Autism. I would like to see our rates compared to Canada, GB, France, Germany, the Nordic countries, Italy, Spain, Greece and other first world countries. Then start comparing how big phrama/the medical industry pushes things in each country, the diet of that particular country, and maybe the leisure time habits.
