I spent plenty of time there. The people suck. I'll stick with Memphis.

Been to both for extended periods.

Both are very cool in their own ways, both on my radar to move to.

Austin is probably the new Nashville when it comes to the music scene, many musicians have made this comment.

I'd rather live in Austin under the age of 35, would probably prefer Nashville over 35.

They say Austin is a new retirement town though.

It's a young hip city, lots to do for the outdoor lifestyle. I'd rather live their young than old. I think the year round warmth is making it a new destination for retirees.

Nashville sucks horse cock. Hipsters and wanna be cowboys everywhere. I swear there are 20 different boot stores on Broad.

Oh and there are hobos errywhere.

aren't you from Memphis? It always cracks me up how insecure people there are of Nashville. The two cities dont even compare. Nashville has left Memphis in the dust.

Lived in Austin for two years, the damn pan handlers are out of control. Shut one of the homeless cross dressers ran for mayor and got like 5% of the damn vote.

I have a funny story that this post made me think of, but then I felt bad, and decided I shouldn't post it.

This is kinda what I am thinking deeprig (which means Austin is probably better to visit). I have never been to Austin but live in Nashville. Get the impression from friends that have been to both that Nashville is the better town to settle down in and Austin is the better single/vaca spot.

I happen to like both a lot, but I'm much more familiar with Austin, and I love mexican food so I'd give austin a slight edge. But Jesus Christ the summers are terrible. Too fricking hot.

Music and food are better in Austin. Nightlife is about the same in my limited experience. Nashville traffic is better and getting around is easier. Both have hobos.

The biggest difference for me is that pretty much nothing you'd ever want to do in Texas is more than 4 hours away from Austin. It is as well placed a city relative to others as any in the country.

This is true.

His name was Leslie. He died last year from complications from a brain injury suffered a couple of years earlier when he was beaten for telling a group of people about the dangers of drug abuse.

Austin has good food, great bars, great parks, and great music. It's also miserably hot six months of the year, traffic is a nightmare, and it has the most pretentious population in the world.

Nashville, all day every day, for a short visit, or even better, indefinitely. Each time I've been, I've never wanted to leave. I would thoroughly love to live there, or just outside of it in Franklin.

There is no comparison to Austin, imo. The music is by far superior in Nashville - premium talent all over the place - the food is consistently better, the climate is better, it's spotless & beautiful, the suburbs are superior, it's very easy to get around downtown & outlying areas, and the people are extremely nice. Oh, and Vandy >>>>>>> UT.
