Visit Beautiful St. Louis!

Hipsters... Hipsters often.

Fat hockey fans with line beards.

No real identifiable music scene.

No interesting culinary escapades.

Now with less murder.

No SEC affiliation.

The only obvious positive... Beer, Beer everywhere. So many craft breweries your head will explode. Delightful.

Visit St. Louis!

"Memphis, just a little bit better than Detroit."

That should be on the interstate sign as you enter Memphis.

I lived in Nashville for 20 years. I really have no idea why people are praising Nashville. It's good place to raise your kids I guess.

Or just say sunnier than Detroit.

Austin can be a surreal experience. In any other city, a person riding a unicycle playing a kazoo would be out of the ordinary, in Austin it was like that but w/ people in business suits. My friends who live there say a few years is great, but it gets to be a Groundhog style existence. The culture doesn't breed a lot of personal initiative (outside of the tech community, I assume).

Us Memphians, always getting murdered. Guess it would be safer if we had a worse homeless population than fricking Seattle. Maybe if we all pretended to be fake cowboys and not actually live in Davidson country we'd be better off? Maybe if we all pretended to live in Brentwood we'd be better.

I've felt more danger being at a gas station near green hills than I ever have in Memphis.

My gay friend fricked a homeless guy in Austin. Obviously Austin is better.

Well you have a very off base sense of security

Hopefully you figure this out, for your own safety

I'll pray about it

How many Wal-Mart Nashville got?

But seriously, Nashville is a cool city. There are still local bands that play good music at the bars...it's not all pop like at places like Tootsie's. I've always had a good time.

Austin.

But I think the music scene is equal to each other.

Nashville is producing a lot of good non-country music.

I live in Austin (grew up in Baton Rouge), and I don't understand all the comments saying Austin is pretentious. It is one of the least pretentious cities I've been to,especially compared to BRLA. Unless posters are confusing smugness with pretentious, bc there are definitely some smug people here, but not a lot of pretention.

Nashville is a great city too, but I think Austin is better (music, food, outdoors, quality of life) although Austin was cooler 7-10 years ago. It's growing so fast and losing its charm I'm worried it will be like Houston or Dallas.

The first time I ever spent any time in Austin was in 1996. I thought it was awesome, and that central Texas was great. There were about 500k people in the city proper. Now there are 850k.

I went there a lot in the early 2000s. The last time I went to Austin was 2007. I thought about how different it was from the first time I was there. I remember when they were building Frost Bank Tower and thinking "that's really going to change the skyline". Now I'm not sure I'd recognize the skyline at all.

I started going to Austin regularly in 2005, and it was much different. Now the skyline is dominated by high rise condo buildings, the 3 tallest building in the city are condos. Who moves to Austin to live in a condo? Its changing, not centered around different neighborhoods as much. Now all the farm land between Austin and San Marcos are strip malls and apartment complexes. A lot of encroachment on the hill country.
