I would be shocked if he is anywhere above 4th in snaps next year. Or any year at this point for that matter. Shame. Feel for the kid.

Ahh, I don't know about that. It's a common injury. One that you can definitely get back to 100% with. I'd expect some ST play for him this year and to be right in the mix for the open safety spot next year. He'll only be a SO next year.

This year coming up will be his RS Junior year, and it's essentially a loss as he plays catch up. In the meantime, you're gonna have Witter, Walters, Williams, Abbington and then Strong his RS Senior year that are all getting better in the meantime.

Lol, We are talking about different players. I thought you were referring to Ross!

Yeah, Ross still has plenty of time to get plenty of PT.

No point in pushing it with Ross, but 6 months is a realistic return date especially for a top level athlete with a top level training staff. That would put him back just after the start of the season, and he could pull some ST duty this year. They originally said possibly by fall camp. IDK. Seems pretty soon to me.

As for Steward, GP said they hope to get him back in June. So we'll see

Kentrell Brothers says Barry Odom has talked about his 3-4 defense, including a "Dawg" 4th LB position that is more a defensive end type.

Anyone else think it's a fait accompli we'll eventually go to a 3-4 under Odom?

I do, especially if/when Kugilowski moves on as a DC somewhere else.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. I like the both the team and schedule for Mizzou this year. I think a double digit win total is in the cards.

Granted, this will make me the most unpopular person in Missouri when my horrible bad luck causes ya'll to lose 8 games next year.

Cornerback Kenya Dennis had the most interesting to response.

"Today was really the first day you could really tell how everything was put together," Dennis said, "and today it really seemed like it was a more aggressive-type defense, and we had a lot more break-ups and a lot more interceptions than we would usually have."

I'm beginning to think so more and more. There's less talk of "elements of a 3-4" and more just straight out talk of a 3-4.

No. Odom has said 4-3 is his favorite scheme. But just like Steck, he understands the defense needs to be dynamic. You can't just do one thing and be successful.

Where did he say that?

I too think we will eventually convert to almost exclusively a 3-4 and we'll be in it a lot more this year than people think. Said it when he was hired.

Read his answers every time he was asked about it at Memphis and after his hire at Mizzou. He said "i'm a 4-3 guy" more than once.

Injuries piling up a bit

Sophomore wideout Nate Brown suffered an MCL strain in his left knee and was in a brace. He could be back after the Tigers return from spring break on March 31. Brown is the starter in the slot to start the spring after working there during bowl practice.
Junior tight end Sean Culkin has an AC joint separation in his right shoulder. He could be back next week. Culkin and Brown both have Grade-1 injuries, which are the least severe on the scale. Brown and Culkin's injuries leave the Tigers with five healthy scholarship wideouts and two healthy scholarship tight ends.
Sophomore defensive tackle A.J. Logan, a Rock Bridge grad, has an arch strain in his left foot. He is day-to-day.
Safety Cortland Browning (Lisfranc injury), guard Brad McNulty (labrum surgery), safety Tavon Ross (ACL tear) and running back Morgan Steward (hip) are still out.
Cornerback John Gibson is also absent from practice for "personal reasons."

The Gibson thing is worrying me a bit. He was on Twitter talking about how much he hated school last week.

So walk on Eric Laurent is working with the 1's in the slot. Great.
