@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: Expectation is that #STLCards’ Wainwright is done for season with Achilles injury. Has not yet undergone MRI.

When Wainright described the pop you just new it was his Achilles. Super bummer.

He never said it was a pop. I think he said for sure there wasn't. Either way, I haven't seen anything about him describing a pop.
He said it felt like something landed on it.
I'm going to hold out hope until the MRI comes in -- I've thought I destroyed my achilles and it ended up being more like a sprain of it. You can sprain it, tear it, rupture it. I'm hoping it's a sprain. Reason to believe it is by the way he was able to somewhat walk off.

Well the shits confirmed.
I'm sure you all know.
Just talking to myself.
Was hoping for the best.
I'll go on record and say I don't want to give up anything worth keeping for Hamels.
I'd prefer to pay less for a Samarja (however you spell his name).

I say let it ride.
Let's see what these guys are made of, theres still a lot of "potential" in this staff. Making a panic move right now isn't the smart play, if Mo believes in the system, then he will stick with it until it proves barren.
Either way, experience is always a trump card, and these guys will get plenty of it this year, even if it doesn't pan out and they slip a bit this year. It will help moving forward, especially if it can get it done without the pressure of precise play needed for a team in a pennant race.
The only problem if this tanks is that the window is closed a little more on Holliday, Waino, Yadi, etc.

I agree.
Don't want a move now.
Let's see how it goes.
I hope one of Marco or Garcia can be healthy, giving us another legitimate pitcher.
And hopefully a Cooney or Lyon's can hold it down while those guys get healthy.
It is a shame.
Feel bad that Waino misses another year pitching to Yadi.

Garcia threw 44 simulated pitches and is set for a side session today or tomorrow I think.
Marco is on a 7 day DL (I guess minors have different lengths) and I think they said may be back mid-May.

Interested to see what Cooney can do. 6'3" lefty who I believe was the 3rd round pick the same season the Cards picked Wacha in the first round. Won 14 games last year in AAA Memphis last year. Not over powering but solid.

I think we kind of know what we got in Cooney.
A solid guy, nothing special.
I don't see a future for him in the rotation, but think he can do well in the majors.
Would like to keep this model going -- Top 2-3 guys in the rotation are solidified starters, bottom 1 or 2 are extra special young talents.

Garcia will make 4-5 starts then go right back on the DL again.Barring a trade, Gonzales will take most of those starts when Cooney gets knocked around.I don't see this team good enough to win it all without a rotation upgrade.
Interesting that Wainwright said he doesn't want DH in NL.

Good for speedy Pete tonight.
Have hated him at times, but have always had some level of sympathy for him.
Hasn't been healthy since his '11 season when he led the AL in triples.
Hasn't gotten consistent playing time here. Wasn't healthy last year.
Love seeing Carp at 2.
Love seeing Pete at 1 when he does what he did tonight.
CMart amazes again.
Good stuff.

Martinez has grown a lot this year.I'm happy for him getting a chance to stay in the rotation.Bourjos is nothing more than a spare part who strikes out too much.Carpenter is probably the best all around player on the team right now.

Bourjos is capable, but he won't get a fair shake here, and that's not a knock on MM.
JJ deserves to play over him at this point. He's got some veteran savvy, and he's learned to use what he's gleaned over the years to turn into a decent ballplayer.
Martinez is showing what a difference a year of experience makes. Last year he doesn't get through that 5th inning. This year he's realizing that shite happens, and as long as he doesn't let it get sideways, he'll be ok.
I like what I'm seeing from him most of all. I think he has the biggest upside of any player not named Wacha.

Bourjos showed what he can do last night. At the plate, in the field and on the bases. 2 of the 3 Jay just isn't capable of doing.
He's never gotten consistent playing time here, and still won't, but nice to see him have a great game.

He got a shot last year but wasn't healthy. The question is can he hit?
Posted on 4/30/15 at 11:37 am to Stlweir
He never got a real shot. He got off to a slow start in the first couple of weeks and he was buried on the bench afterwards. Some guys can't take to the bench role well and hit. It appears he is one of them...and as you say, he was hurt.
Jay isn't capable of producing a season like Bourjos did in 2011. No doubt in my mind a healthy PB adds more value over JJ over the course of a full season. Doesn't matter though, JJ is Matheny's guy.

15-6 now. Best record in baseball.
Just wow. Let's keep this pain train rolling.

I'm not anti Jay. I like the guy. He's been basically a .300 hitter for 5 years in a row, and I actually like his defense.
But yeah, PB has a dynamic that Jay can't reproduce. If PB was put out there 30 days in a row I really believe he'd change the entire look of our offense in a positive way.

JJ has been awesome in center this year and love him in the leadoff. I'm also a huge Jon Jay Sauget homer. Always have been. He's a gamer.
