Check out 3* APB Jordan Brown, we just offered him at The Showcase. He's got offers from the NC schools (including Duke so the academics must be in order) and WVU and Okie St.

https://www.hudl.com/athlete/2848969/highlights/170735379/v2

I watched his Jr year highlights, linked above. This guy can cut like a Benihana chef. He is very elusive and makes guys at the 2nd level miss consistently. His lateral movement is very good and he is really quick, not Nyheim Hines quick, but more like AJ Turner quick (maybe a little less.) He also has solid top end speed and if he gets behind the secondary, they aren't catching him. I thought his vision was very good, he had a solid OL, but you could see that he adjusted his run when blocking broke down.
He also had a good understanding of angles and balance in approaching secondary defenders, he quickly assessed if cutting back inside or shooting for the corner was a better option. He's also a 'Fall Forward' guy, which is a big + in my book, he was able to pick up an extra 2-3 yards by pushing forward when he was wrapped up. I was surprised to see him break so many tackles too, given his size. Some examples were just poor tackling, but several tackles on that reel were solid tackles, but Brown just broke free. I also like his ability to catch, he has solid hands and made a number of 'not-easy' catches in traffic. He also adjusted his body well (which makes sense considering his agility with the ball in his hands,) to make great catches.

Things I think he needs to work on are keeping TWO HANDS ON THE BALL coming through the line or when a defender gets a hand on him. I didn't see any fumbles, but SEC defenders will see that and strip that ball out. While his elusiveness was excellent, he could still need to develop that top end speed. As he adds weight, that elusiveness will fall off a little bit, unless he seriously pursues a collegiate level strength and conditioning program. So, weight, top end speed and two hands on the ball are what he needs to work on. All of that is trainable/coachable. I like the offer, hopefully we can pull him out of NC.

Really good job, CIYE...

IMO, we are WAY out of it with Holyfield and Davis. Davis seems to be freezing SC out, which is fine, but just tell the coaches you're no longer interested. He's ALL dawg and it's really not close. Holyfield, I follow a few UGA beat writers and he was in Athens hanging out with Mark Richt on the day of our showcase. SC is obviously not a priority for him.

I respect the coaches for still fighting hard to recruit but I think we need to focus our efforts elsewhere...

I've never understood it but coaches do that on a regular basis. I think it has something to do with egos.

I remember Brad Scott staying with kids, wasting time, thinking we were going to recruit against the big boys back in those days ... when he could have been building with blue collar players if he had had a decent staff.

A lot of wasted effort and resources and a lot of failed classes ... especially along the lines.

Skip did it too to a lesser extent. Dirty Dave actually coordinated everything back then but Skip made the final decisions (which I always thought was a huge mistake) and he favored JuCos - which were short term fixes. In the meantime he'd direct all of our attention to certain kids that we rarely had a shot-at where it would have been much wiser to move-on.

These days though, usually, if we're still recruiting them come August we've got a shot in the minds of the coaches ... someone, usually Whammy, is telling Bubba, "hey, we might get this guy if we keep showing him the love."

Kids these days, especially kids in Georgia for some reason ... really need stroking. There are other things that may be playing into this as well. These days our staff knows as much about Georgia's numbers and needs as Georgia does ... and visa versa. Same goes for Clemson. We all know what they all know and that's who can take whom and how many there are to give.

Hell, NC State and Va Tech have made their livings in SC and GA by knowing who the leftovers are going to be from GA, SC and CU.

Picking-up UGA's leftovers have proven to be very very profitable in the past.

SC is in the final 2 for 247 Sports 4* ILB, #96 Overall, https://247sports.com/Player/Kash-Daniel-78422

Kash just got an invite to the US Army All American Game today.

Check out his highlights here, he plays QB and LB, he's a really good athlete.

Kent fans&insiders are very confident he picks Kent.

Kash visited SC for The Showcase and shut down his future visits and told people who would announce his choice on July 4th. Usually that would be a good sign for SC that a recruit shuts it down after a camp/visit and picks and announcement date.

Here is a comment from Kash in the past 24 hours, what do you make of it?

quote:

Brian Milam of Lexington TV station WKYT reported that Daniel was interviewed Wednesday night in the studios of WLAP Radio in Lexington.

“When I got back from (South) Carolina, I got a really good feel where I wanted to go to school. I ended up swinging by Commonwealth and talking to Coach Stoops and that was not planned or anything because I was coming here (radio station),” Milam quoted Daniel as saying.

“If I could go take another visit to South Carolina, trust me, I would. Like I said, I’ve got a good idea of where I want to go to school and I canceled the rest of these visits because I’ve seen all I need to see and it’s helped me make this decision I’m going to make.”

He sounds very interested, but I'll be surprised if he commits here.

Maybe I'm pessimistic, but I don't have much confidence in the current coaching situation and trying to pull name kids out of other SEC states. We have had success getting what we want from SC and NC, and taking leftovers in Georgia. Without a serious change in recruiting philosophy (one that starts at the HC level), we're not likely to fight off the home team for out of state guys.

Yep, he came out with some quote to PK today. I don't know, maybe I see these quotes different than most people. what do y'all make of these?

quote:

LB Kash Daniel of Paintsville, KY, who has narrowed his decision to USC, Kentucky and Louisville said Thursday afternoon he has made his decision but won’t reveal it until a press conference at his high school gym around Noon on July 4th.

“Yes sir, I know in my mind where I want to go to school,” Daniel said. “This whole recruiting process I always told everybody I’m going to go to school where I feel at home even if home is in a different state. The school that I chose that I know of right now in the back of my mind, whenever I step on campus I feel at home.”

Daniel was in Lexington, KY yesterday to appear on a radio show and while in town he stopped by UK and visited with head coach Mark Stoops.

“I was just in town and stopped over there and said high to everybody,” he said. “That was not planned. It was just in the back of my mind. If I could come down to South Carolina again, I would.”

Daniel did talk on Thursday with USC recruiters Kirk Botkin and Steve Spurrier Jr. He attended USC’s Showcase camp last Saturday. He said he will not take any more visits prior to his announcement.

4* OLB Jeremiah Moon had this to say to PK today.

quote:

LB Jeremiah Moon of Hoover, AL was busy last weekend first attending USC's Showcase camp on Saturday then hitting up Mississippi State on Sunday. Those are two of the three SEC schools he's serious about. Florida is the other and he plans to visit there this weekend.

Moon's camp experience at USC was his second look at the school and the program after attending a junior day in January.

"I liked everything about it," Moon said. "The campus was great. We had a tour and we got to see everything. They're getting new dorms for the players and add-ons to the stadium. I had a great time with Coach Botkin and I learned a lot. Everything was fast paced. I just feel like I could play here. This would be a place where I can see myself playing We'll just have to wait and see."

Moon also has offers from Minnesota, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and Louisville. There are a few things he's considering as he works on his decision which he might have in a couple of weeks.

"My decision is going to come down my bond with the coach," Moon said. "The scheme and see if I can fit into what they are doing and see what all their players are doing and all the redshirts and put myself in the best opportunity to maybe put myself on the field. That's what it's going to come down to."

4* OLB PJ Blue had an interview today with PK.

quote:

LB PJ Blue (6-2 200) of Montgomery, AL wasn't able to make it to USC camps earlier this month but he hopes to get to the campus later in the summer. Right now he has the Gamecocks and Ole Miss at the top of his list.

"I really like South Carolina but I've never been," Blue Said. I heard good things about it though. I'm kind of torn between them and Ole Miss."

Clemson, Nebraska, Missouri, Troy, Southern Miss, Kentucky, Louisville and Alabama are among his other offers. Ole Miss has been his only visit this month.

Grady Brown, who knows Blue's parents, originally recruited him for the Gamecocks but now he's talking with linebackers coach Kirk Botkin.

"He just told me he thinks I'm a really good athlete and that I could I could play linebacker or safety."

Blue said he wants to make his decision later this summer after he takes more visits.

Octavious Johnson (CB) prospect/signee is headed to Fork Union and will try to enroll in January of 2016.

Is this the right thread to include this news?

Yes, Fork Union is a great program for him to be in. We will have help keeping him committed there.

Past Fork Union Gamecocks were
Akeem Auguste
Antonio Allen
Kelcy Quarles
Chaz Sutton
and those are the ones that went Pro after USC

Then you have...
Jerrell Adams (in school now)
Ronald Byrd (don't k now what happened to him.)
Erik Baker (he had that one great game.)
Brison WIlliams (he may still have a shot, depends on what he does this summer.)

Cool! Then he's technically on lay-a-way.

pretty much like that. Fork Union has a solid S&C program, he'll come out of there with great conditioning and a better understanding of commitment to academics. They know what they're doing there with establishing structure and self discipline.

Johnson should be here in January. He's just going up there to study for the ACT/SAT and play football.

Thanks Conway ... you beat me to it - I was in the recruiting forum updating.

Seems like a big kid with growing potential who has good feet and it motivated to be here.
