Auburn JUCO DE commit Paul James
Figured we wouldn't get 'em all.
quote:He might. I don't think he's extended an offer just yet. The old staff had extended an offer, but I don't think anyone knows yet what the new board looks like, besides the people Muschamp, TRob, Elliott, and Bently are visiting this week. If they get a visit this week or next week, they're on the board.
Stephen Davis Jr. He decommitted not long after Muschamp took over and stopped receiving communications
Given short recruiting period, what the recruiting board looks like etc, Muschamp may make Davis a priority

Muschamp, Bentley & Elliott doing work in the Upstate today.
quote:
Defensive back Troy Pride Jr. of Greer is one of the targets. Pride was offered by the interim staff (Elliott). Muschamp and Elliott went by Greer to see Pride.
quote:
Running back Tavien Feaster of Spartanburg is a long-time Clemson commit. Spartanburg head coach Chris Miller knows Bentley well as the two have worked together before on the staff at Byrnes High. It has been all Tigers for Feaster from Day 1, but the Gamecocks will do their best to get in the game. Bentley went to Spartanburg today.
quote:
Class of 2017 wide receiver Shi Smith of Union County (S.C.) is believed to be getting a "check in" (you can't really visit with underclassmen) from Muschamp and company, too. The Gamecocks were one of the first schools to offer Smith, but he's currently an early lean to Clemson. Smith is coached by former South Carolina quarterback Steve Tanneyhill.

JC mentioned to keep an eye on 3* WR out of Byrnes Chavis Dawkins, monster senior year may get us interested.

Muschamp, Bentley and Elliott went to the upstate today to do recruiting. Bentley went to talk to 5* RB Tavien Feaster. Bentley coached Lattimore. Feaster's HS Coach worked for Bentley at Byrnes. This is a long shot IMO, but he's giving it a go.
Feaster would start for us next year, we don't have anyone on our roster that is on his level. He'll sit behind Gallman next year. So at least we'll be able to be honest about early playing time in the recruitment.
Muschamp and Elliott went to see 3* CB Troy Pride Jr at Greer. Prides recruitment took off this fall, he had a really good season. notre dame ole miss and tenn are making a late push for his services. We'll probably be sending TRob to see him shortly.
They also went over to Union County to check in on Steve Tanneyhill and his '17 stud Shi Smith.

Isn't it nice to have stuff to talk about in the recruiting thread though?

I have a close friend who teaches at Union County, and we should definitely get Shi Smith. Kid is quick and shifty, just a little rough around the edges.
What are the chances we can at least get a visit from Feaster? Would Dabo withdraw his offer?

5*'s are allowed to visit there, but a 3* or low 4* cannot take OV's elsewhere. That's their 'policy'.
I don't know how good our chances are here, it just happened today.

Just glad to see we are trying. I had written him off completely, even as dynamic of a player as he is.

When Lattimrore was here, he was his role model. Sands just WASTED any and all recruitment of Feaster, and then after the loss last year he just gave up on recruiting him. Sands was like Bubba, he was a decent Coach and Developer of talent, but his recruiting was lacking.

Here's a guy to keep an eye on. 2015 SC Mr Football, QB Austin Scott.
https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Austin-Scott-60321/RecruitInterests
https://usatodayhss.com/2015/gatorade-south-carolina-football-poy-austin-scott
Sr highlights for first 9 games
I had to watch this film twice. My first impression was, he doesn't have the arm strength and balls were floating out there that his WR's would go up an get. Then I started watching him throw 50 yard passes off his back foot. He does have plenty of arm strength for a Sr in HS, but what he has a lot of is touch. He throws very catchable balls. His placement is really good. He's throwing to the outside shoulders and threading defenses. He's very confident in his throws, he makes decisions quickly. One of the things I like the most is how he led defender; lots of pump fakes and footwork in the pocket. His windup isn't the fastest, but that's a mechanical thing that can be fixed during an off sesaon. His vision is also well above Avg for any HS QB. He could see guys getting open quickly. He was very familiar with his WR's routes, he hit many of them in stride for big plays, he must practice with them a lot. He makes throws when he rolls right or left. He's a pocket passer all the way though.
He's thrown 112 TD's the past 2 years. It's no wonder he won Mr Football this year.
If for some reason McIlwain goes MLB Pro, he would be an option this class. I might think we should offer him anyways. Right now we have Mitch, Scar, Nunez and Orth all on scholarship, and one of them might transfer before fall camp when they see McIlwain practice/play. McIlwain in the future of the program, but this Scott guy is pretty good.

Bentley also went to see 3* WR Chavis Dawkins, here's what he had to say:
quote:
“(Bentley) was telling me how they are going to get a whole new coaching staff and how they are going to rebuild South Carolina and do some things different," Dawkins said. “I am just excited to see what coaches they bring in."
"They talked to me a little bit about an offer," he said.

Top 5 WR, 4* Sam Bruce of south FL, is now thinking of OV'ing to SC Jan 15th. Thanks TRob!

He should be offered regardless. Look at Mason Rudolph at Okie State.
There are a lot of positives that come from offering a local kid to come and play for you. Worst-case scenario, he uses a scholly and transfers to North Greenville or something after a year.

2016 4* OL, John Simpson, is very happy that Elliott was retained. Without him, he was leaning heavily towards bama. Hopefully Elliott and Muschamp will get down there this week or early next week. Also we'll probably get an OV now.
Posted on 12/8/15 at 11:26 pm to CockInYourEar
I think Simpson's already talked to Muschamp today, according to Gamecock Central.
JC also confirmed tonight that Muschamp has been in contact with Nick McCloud.
