Feels weird having a head coach who actually recruits.

Truly. But I dig it.

2* DE Griffin Gentry received a call from Muschamp today.

“The call with coach (Will) Muschamp went great,” Gentry said. “He was telling me he was to know that I was a Gamecock and how he really needs me. I really think he’s going to help take this program to the top.”

“My official visit will be in January (15-17).”

mUSChamp is working his tail off already.

Highly impressive. I love how he talked about the need to rely on instate talent, and how that should be a deciding factor because of how much harder they will play for home. I completely agree, and think this going to pay serious dividends down the road.

"[Muschamp] will help them alot" in regards to him coming to SC. Wants a coach that's going to get in the trenches with him.

4* #1 JUCO Cornerback Prospect Jamarcus King who was an Auburn favorite is taking an OV this weekend here at USC.

Jamarcus King (Eight Mile, Ala/Coffeyville) said on Monday night that he's been in touch with new Gamecocks defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson and he's going to take his final visit to Columbia.

"I don't know much about South Carolina," King said. "I just know the coaches and know I want to take a visit. I just want to see how the players take me in. I think I could help the team."

"Coach Robinson is just a great man, a great coach and a great recruiter," King said.

There has been more recruiting done today than throughout this entire football season. At least that's what it feels like.

Just coming here to post that about King. #1 JUCO CB coming in for a OV this weekend. TRob has been in contact with him already setting up the OV. We are moving at a very fast pace in recruiting that we haven't seen since 2007.

au's DL coach, Gardner, just had an in home with CB Marlon Character. Character decommitted from SC to play for TRob at auburn and b/c of the relationship they built. Now with TRob coming to SC, they are expecting Character to flip to SC. However, his girlfriend got excepted to auburn a couple weeks ago, so he'll have to decide if he wants to follow her there, or lead her to a brighter future in SC.

If he flips back, it would be pretty funny.

Muschamp & Co. have contacted 2 other Auburn Commits:

quote:

AuburnUndercover has confirmed the Gamecocks have been in contact with 4-star Auburn defensive end commit Paul James of Copiah-Lincoln Community College, along with 3-star defensive end Keir Thomas of Miami (Fla.) Central. The father of Thomas said he spoke to Muschamp and former Auburn secondary coach Travaris Robinson, who is headed to South Carolina to be defensive coordinator, on Monday night.

TRob didn't recruit Givens to auburn, so he doesn't know if he's on TRob's board or not. If TRob wants him, he'll get him back during the OV that he said he still wants to take. Givens even tagged #ForeverToThee. He wants to hold on, but he wants to make sure he's wanted. I get it.

ETA: TRob is now scheduled to meet with Given on Thursday and Givens is coming to SC this weekend. He's also scheduled some OV's, with AZ State and Ole Miss, but we'll see if we can shut that down this weekend.

Some guys that Muschamp likely looks at from Auburn's class/targets. He has a solid track record of evaluating/developing guys like this

3* DT/SDE David Marshall - grandma babysat Will Muschamp's wife

3* DE Daquan Newkirk
- Muschamp/Garner said Newkirk was a homerun type find. His lack of notoriety is due to completely shutting down recruiting after commitment.

3* Buck LB/DE Kier Thomas
- Former FSU DE Commit. Needs to lose some baby fat but has elite quickness and put up some 20 sacks SR year

3* CB Malek Young
- UGA commit that TRob/Muschamp loved

Also, you can pretty much cross off Stephen Davis Jr from target list, Muschamp didn't have a high opinion about Davis and led to his decommitment from AU

Enjoy the Muschamp/TRob Recruiting train. You'll be in it for big names and you'll be excited about small time guys you know they scouted/developed.

Boom and Shawn Elliot are making the rounds again today. Just got word that they were at Union County HS visiting with Taneyhill and Shi Smith today.

I think Shi is rated as a 4-star WR/Ath.

As an Auburn fan I'd rate those guys I listed the following

1- Kier Thomas is a little short/chubby but think of an Elvis Dumervil type player. Extremely quick off the snap and sack machine.

2- David Marshall - Boom or bust, he has legit athleticism and size. Some questions about his motor/production but if he gets motivated he could be elite talent

3- Daquan Newkirk - He shut down recruitment and faded into the background but he easily could be best elite D player. High motor, athletic potential and ability to be coached

4- Malek Young - TRob was extremely high on him. Supposedly he liked Young better than his higher rated 4* CB teammate Trayvon Mullen

Auburn JUCO DE commit Paul James publicly said that he rejected USCe/Muschamp's recruiting advances

Saw this re Stephen Davis JR.

quote:

Stephen Davis Jr. - ..... I would say it increases my interest in South Carolina. I will definitely visit them again.”

When Muschamp took over, it was well known that he didn't have plans for Stephen Davis Jr. He decommitted not long after Muschamp took over and stopped receiving communications

Given short recruiting period, what the recruiting board looks like etc, Muschamp may make Davis a priority but he went out of his way to not do so at AU
