In better news than we've been getting for most of the year, Brandon McIlwain won SEC Country's Offensive Recruit of the Week award.

He played an unbeaten conference rival and his team won the game. McIlwain was 17/25 for 221 yards and one TD and rushed 28 times for 209 yards and 5 TDs. I cannot wait till this young man is wearing Garnet and Black.

Darius Whitfield tweeted yesterday that he heard Columbia showed no love for their team.

WTF????????? No, seriously...WTF????

Somebody's badmouthing us to him, obviously. Apparently Gamecock fans then bombarded him with replies that he shouldn't believe everything he hears and that we support our team no matter what. (probably those dumbfricks at Auburn...see below)

Also, Marlon Character has flipped to fricking Auburn. Apparently Character lacks character.

Best not to follow recruiting until a new coach has been hired. You're only likely to see more flips and decommitments in the interim. Every coach in the conference is going to talk trash about this program so long as it lacks a rudder.

If Herman says no, Fuente goes Miami, and Smart heads to VaTech, Elliott may not be able to sign a full class.

I do not believe that Mark Richt will be fired or resign during or after this Reg Season. However, there is a lot of smoke about the stability of the uga coaching staff right now. We know we're getting a new staff, and he sooner the better, b/c we'll have about a 2-3 week window for visits before the Christmas Dead Period.

In the unlikely event that uga fires Richt, or he resigned, I would presume that they'll keep the Asst Coaches in place until the new HC is hired and then he'll make a decision on who he keeps or replaces. Although, if it all goes to shite, they could technically just axe everyone, but again that's unlikely.

However, there are some recruits (with a uga lean) that we've either visited or visited us that we'll need to jump on if the event Richt Gone.

4* DT Julian Rochester (Mangus is his recruiter, Mangus might be retained.)
4* WDE Chauncey Manac (teammates with Octavis Johnson)
4* RB Elijah Holyfield (but I bet his Dad tells him to get his arse to Notre Dame.)

Some recruits that Richt's departure (and having in place a new Quality HC and staff for us) would be:
5* TE Issac Natua (If we keep Mangus, we have a shot here.)
5* WR Kyle Davis (I never bought the utk/aub crap. (Keeping Mangus helps here too.)
5* ATH Demetris Robinson (he would excel in a Herman or Fuente offense.)
4* ATH Marquez Callaway (Botkin was talking to him last week.)
4* OT EJ Price (Mangus and Elliott, if they're retained would help.)

2* DL Griffin Gentry committed last night.

quote:

“Playing in the SEC has always been a dream of mine, and I've always liked South Carolina,” the 6-foot-2, 260-pound Gentry said. “So making this decision just felt right.”

quote:

“I called coach (Kirk) Botkin and I talked to coach (Shawn) Elliott,” Gentry said. “They were both really excited. They are thinking about putting me at defensive end.”

quote:

“I know I am going to the Florida game next weekend,” he said. “I’m not sure about when else I will visit, but I will take an official visit too.”

quote:

“I am looking forward to getting down there to Columbia and playing for a really good football team,” he said. “I don’t think having a new coach will change how I feel about South Carolina. My family and my coaches are behind me and this decision.”

We really need to put some reigns on Elliott and the boys right now ... just let them concentrate on what we have and not go after any new kids for the moment.

This can get really weird in a hurry if we are not careful.

4* WR Bryan Edwards just decommited. He's opening it back up, but we are still in the lead group. He just wants to see who the new staff is and make sure he finds the best fit. If Herman gets here, I wouldn't be surprised to see him re-commit.

Would surprise you, or wouldn't?

I'm not surprised at all to see Edwards drop, but I expect him to be back as soon as he knows who will be coaching him, assuming it's Herman or Smart.

A friend of mine is Edward's family. He said that until the new coach is announced, Brian wants to explore options. Unfortunately #1 on that explore list is tater tech. His fam member says Brian is def still about the Gamecocks, but is nervous to shut out other options until the "official" HC announcement is made.

4* WR Bryan Edwards is back in play. Very pro-Gamecock stuff coming from his camp and his social media. Was at the Mr Football SC awards last night, Gamecocks gaining back momentum.

Darius Whitfield's thoughts on Muschamp hire:

quote:

Darius Whitfield - "I think it is a great hire, especially if we are rebuilding and trying to get back on a championship path. He's a defensive minded coach and he's a good person because I conversated with him multiple times. My coach always said 'if the team can't score they won't win.' Good decision. We will be back on top soon. I am fully committed to South Carolina."

Some more comments:

quote:

Will Putnam - “I am interested with the new hire and I am eager to get back to Columbia to meet the new coaches. I am glad the situation is settled, and we will see how it all gels together. Hopefully I will be able to visit sometime before Christmas. I am still 100 percent committed.”

Stephen Davis Jr. - “I think it's great. It would probably be a big boost to the program! I like it because he would bring the swagger and that fire back. I would say it increases my interest in South Carolina. I will definitely visit them again.”

Bryan Edwards - "I don't really have a reaction (yet). I will be visiting USC pretty soon. That will be the last visit for me."

Griffin Gentry - “I think coach Muschamp is big for the program! I'm excited about it. Mississippi State came by my school but I am 110 percent committed to South Carolina. I will be taking my official visit sometime in January.”
