Our recruiting is kind of meh this year. We have a fistful of really solid commits, but we aren't anywhere near where we've been in years past at this point in the cycle.

I don't think a coaching change is going to dramatically impact recruiting negatively. We'll lose some guys, we'll keep some guys and who knows, if we make a stud hire, we may actually improve.

After talking it over with my family I have decided to decommit from the University of South Carolina.

Kelvin Harmon, Pete Leota & Brandon Mclwain have all been reported to re-affirm their commitments to USC.

Yeah, I saw where Blue tweeted that he'd decided to decommit.

As long as Harmon, Leota and mainly McIlwain are still coming, I still feel somewhat okay about the recruiting class. Long way from this bumpy ride from being over, though.

Four-star wide receiver Bryan Edwards:

quote:

"As of now I am verbally commited to USC. South Carolina is my home and I have tons of love for it and the University of South Carolina, their program and fans. Obviously the timing of Coach Spurrier's retirement is a shock and sad thing to see. However, at the same time I have to what's best for me and my future as a student-athlete. I will be contemplating my future in the next few weeks in light of recent events."

Three-star offensive lineman Will Putnam:

quote:

"We knew it was coming. Just figured we would have a little more stability going into college. The majority of the commitments in the group chat want to slow play it and see what's going on before we make any decisions. So far I am keeping my options open but I am still committed."

Do you know if he is projected as a DT or DE for y'all?

He had an 86% projection to go to Bama and 0 CB's to SC.

hmm....

I would like to be the first to welcome Kirby Smart as our new HC.

I think he wants to be at nose guard, which is certainly a position we could use all the help we can get.

I don't expect Deke Adams to be with us after this season, so who knows.

He'll play whichever spot Kirby tells him too.

I thought he would have been a DT in this class for UF.

Congrats on the pick up. The timing of it seems that he is picking a school rather than a coach.

Three-star cornerback JJ Givens:

"I can't answer that at the moment" when asked his reaction to Spurrier's retirement.

Three-star defensive back Chris Smith:

"I am shocked. I thought I would get the chance to play for the legendary head ball coach. I am still 100 percent committed. I still have to compete for playing time. I will be at the rest of the home games."

Three-star wide receiver Tre Jackson:

"It is unfortunate. He's one of the greats of college football, but I am still committed to the Gamecocks.

Chris Smith hasn't done much this year at South Pointe. I keep up with the RH schools, and I haven't read his name much.

This combined with the d-lineman decommitting from Alabama today is certainly curious.

Smart makes an awful lot of sense in a lot of ways.

Sometimes not hearing a DB's name is just as good if not better than reading about him in the paper. Could mean they aren't tossing the ball his way. OTOH it could mean he is just aweful. Ill stay optimistic that its option A.

If y'all haven't seen the highlights on this guy, check them out. I'm impressed, I get why he has that offer list. He was very technically sound for a Jr in HS. He plays his assignments really well and has good footwork and hand techniques to disengage. He also has that quick burst you like to see in DL. He tackles well when he's on key and he strips the ball when he's assisting. He's been really well coached.

His motor looks really good, but that's hard to really judge from highlights. He pursues the ball, he adapts to the blocking and reads where the play is heading. I like it. If we can get his overall speed up and physical conditioning, he could be a monster. He plays with swagger.

Impressive...saw him do the "Swearinger swim move" a few times in there. I like how he never gave up the pursuit and he always swarmed to the ball and didn't use sloppy, half arse tackling technique. Didn't realize he played both ways. There was also a RB he was blocking for when on offense that looked like he had potential.
