No idea either especially with so many other big names still on the board. But it shows just how good he must have been at camp today. KN says he's ripped like Carl Lawson FWIW

I know nothing about him but look at him. Kid is jacked and apparently ran a 4.4 today. Good looking prospect from a straight build perspective - 6'2" 215 lbs.

In-state standout commits to AU, dream becomes a reality (Rivals)
quote:

AUBURN | Auburn has picked up a commitment from one of the state's top defensive players.

Decatur linebacker Josh Marsh received an offer from Auburn on Friday and immediately accepted it.

"I committed," Marsh said. "It's a dream come true."

Marsh earned the offer after an impressive performance at Auburn's half-day camp. He ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash and was a standout in 1-on-1 drills.

Following the camp, Marsh met with Auburn coach Gus Malzahn.

"One of the assistants told me that we were going up to Coach Malzahn's office," Marsh said. "We talked for a little bit and then Coach Malzahn said they wanted to offer me a scholarship."

It didn't take Marsh long to accept it.

"I said, 'Well, OK. I want to commit,'" Marsh said. "I've been dreaming of that since I was three years old. I've been wanting to play for Auburn since I was 3."

Marsh plays linebacker for Decatur, but could project at many positions in college, including linebacker, safety and nickle back.

"It doesn't matter to me," Marsh said. "They just said they want me as an athlete on defense."

Marsh, who checked in Friday at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, chose Auburn over several offers, including Colorado State, Memphis and Louisville, among others.

"I'm mindblown," Marsh said. "It's truly a dream come true."

Marsh is Auburn's ninth commitment in the 2018 class and second of the day. Junior wide receiver George Pickens also committed to Auburn.

Boom! Tigers land in-state commitment from lifelong Auburn fan (247)
quote:

After a strong showing at Auburn's camp Friday afternoon, Josh Marsh earned an offer.

For Marsh, that was all he needed to hear.

The 3-star defensive athlete from Decatur (Ala.) has committed to the Tigers.

"I went up there and talked to (Auburn coach Gus Malzahn) and he said, 'We want to offer you a scholarship,'" Marsh recalled. "And I was like, 'Okay, I want to commit.'

The 6-feet-1.5, 210-pound Marsh is commitment No. 9 for Auburn in the 2018 class. He carries an 84 rating from 247Sports, making him a mid-3 star.

According to Marsh, he had no idea an offer was even a possibility when the day began. After his commitment, it all still seemed surreal for Marsh, who called himself a lifelong Auburn fan.

"I had prayed about it, but they hadn't said anything," Marsh said. "Really, there was no any idea. I just knew I had to come down here and show out. ... Ever since I was 3, I was like, 'I want to come to Auburn, I want to come to Auburn.' It's like a dream come true."

Marsh ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash Friday at Auburn.

"I guess guarding people and being out in space would be one of my strengths," Marsh said.

Marsh could play linebacker or defensive end at the next level.

Before Friday, it wasn't even known that he was on Auburn's radar. Now, he is Auburn's second commitment Friday, joining 4-star 2019 receiver George Pickens of Hoover (Ala.).

With Marsh's commitment, Auburn moved from No. 44 to No. 42 in the recruiting team rankings.

Before Friday, Memphis and Colorado State were the front-runners.

Now, he'll be a Tiger.

"It's kind of mind-blowing," Marsh said.

BREAKING: In-state defensive prospect Josh Marsh unexpectedly commits to Auburn (SECCountry)
quote:

AUBURN, Ala. — In short order, Josh Marsh and Auburn became a match.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker camped with the Tigers on Friday. He received an offer. That’s all the 3-star 2018 prospect from Decatur (Ala.) needed to see.

Marsh committed to Auburn on Friday night, becoming the ninth commitment in the 2018 recruiting class. He’s unranked by the composite rankings, but 247Sports rates him as a 3-star prospect and the 34th-best player in Alabama.

Marsh grew up an Auburn fan since he was 3 years old. His previous No. 1 school was Memphis, but he knew once he received an offer from the Tigers that he wouldn’t need to think twice.

Here's an AL.com article on him from this spring

Who's recruiting Josh Marsh, the state's leading tackler last season? (AL.com)
quote:

By the time you finish reading this sentence, Josh Marsh will have likely made several tackles.

Marsh, Decatur's three-star 2018 linebacker, recorded 206 stops last season to lead the AHSAA. That eye-popping stat came on the heels of making 150 tackles as a sophomore.

Combine those numbers with a 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame and a 4.5 second time in the 40-yard dash, and it's easy to understand why a number of colleges are pursuing Marsh. Louisville, Troy, Memphis and Colorado State are among those who have offered

"The pace has picked up and it's going good," said Marsh, who added about 20 pounds during the offseason.

"They like the speed I bring at linebacker, the ability to guard receivers and the size that comes with it."

Texas visited earlier this week, and Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State have stopped by. Marsh feels that a Power Five offer is on the horizon.

"It's coming," he said. "It's a matter of time and it depends on what camps I go to this summer."

Marsh has yet to decide which camps he'll attend as he has to work them around a planned missionary trip to Africa. He has previously visited both Memphis and Colorado State, and plans a return trip to CSU in the summer to see the Rams' new stadium, which is scheduled to open for the 2017 season.

Marsh's defensive exploits last season - the ninth-highest single-season tackle total in AHSAA history, 17.2 tackles per game, 14 stops for a loss, four forced fumbles and a Pick-6 - earned him a spot on the AL.com Super All-State team and the AL.com Huntsville Region Defensive Player of the Year award.

Marsh was only able to participate in four days of spring football due to his commitment to the track and field team, which advanced to the Class 6A state championship meet in Gulf Shores last week. Still, he made a smooth transition back to the gridiron and played in front of Troy, South Alabama and Memphis coaches during an instrasquad spring game Thursday.

"It was definitely a blast," Marsh said. "We looked good the four days I was out here. The offense was kicking our butt the first day of spring, but the defense got it together. We put in a new system and we learned that real good. We came out here today and the defense put it on the offense. I'm just excited for the season."

How one camp took lifelong Auburn fan Josh Marsh from unknown to Tigers commit (SECCountry)
quote:

AUBURN, Ala. — Coming into the day, Josh Marsh was a little known prospect from north Alabama.

But rest assured, it’s a name SEC fans — especially the ones in Auburn — will soon be quite familiar with.

The unranked outside linebacker from Decatur (Ala.) grew up a fan of the Tigers since he was 3 years old. He’d attended games for years in Jordan-Hare Stadium and always prayed about playing for the Tigers one day. But heading into his senior year, his top offers were from Memphis and Colorado State.

Until Friday.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound athlete participated in Auburn’s skills camp and impressed the coaching staff. The Tigers offered.

Marsh didn’t hesitate.

“Right after the camp, one of the assistants, said we were going up to coach (Gus) Malzahn’s office. Nobody really told me. I just thought we were going to go up there to talk. We talked a little bit. He was like, ‘We want to offer you a scholarship.’ I was like OK, ‘Then I want to commit,” Marsh said. “I told him I didn’t really know how it worked out, but I wanted to commit. So I committed, and I’m coming to play ball.”

There came a point during the Friday camp when it became evident Travis Williams, in particular, had seen enough.

Marsh dropped back in coverage to break up a pass. Williams began jumping across the field, charging at Marsh and wrapped his arms around his shoulders, slapping him on the back. Add to that, during testing period, Marsh clocked a 4.43-second 40 time.

Even then, Marsh said he wasn’t holding out hope for an Auburn offer.

“Really, I’m one of those guys who’s hard on myself. Every time I do something, I’m like, ‘OK, I can do better in this.’ I critiqued myself. I really never got a confidence like, ‘OK, this is going to happen.’ It was just one of those things where I was blown away,” Marsh said. “It’s just one of those things that, even if you know, it kinda catches you off guard and blows you away. But I was real caught off guard.”

As a recruit, this wasn’t Marsh’s first time on the Plains.

He visited Auburn in between his freshman and sophomore seasons for a brief visit. He spoke some with Gus Malzahn and then-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. But he hadn’t come back since then as a recruit because, when he did, he wanted to make sure he was memorable.

“I hadn’t come back since then because I wanted to make sure I was going to really show out. This year, my coach was like, ‘You need to go down there.’ So I came back and re-met everybody because it had been a while,” he said.

Marsh said Auburn has recruiting him as a “defensive prospect.” With his frame, it could go a variety of ways. He has the size and speed to be a linebacker. If he adds the right amount of weight, he could develop into an edge rusher. But he also has the skill set to drop back in coverage.

Simply put, the Tigers just wanted him in the class regardless of position or ranking.

The lifelong Auburn fan is grateful.

“Ever since I was like 3, it was ‘I want to come to Auburn. I want to come to Auburn.’ It’s like a dream come true,” Marsh said. “I’m coming to play wherever they need me. They said, ‘You’ve got speed, you’ve got size, you can move. We just want you as an athlete. … At this point, it’s just mind-blowing. It’s a dream come true.”

Because coaching staff doesn't use stars to evaluate. We had a camp today and offered kids who showed out

You know it, had high hopes for this weekend and so far we look to be losing Jenkins, Fields is everywhere but Auburn, Miller and Ross can't make it, and we are offering and taking commits from kids being recruiting by Bowling Green.
