Then maybe his and your expectations were unrealistic.

This board has a terrible tendency to grasp on to anything they can blame. One night it's the players just suck and today it's Chuck Person can't coach defense. What's tomorrow?

I'm not saying fire Chuck, or that he cannot coach defense. I'm just starting to look at the coaching with more skepticism than before.

I'll give him a pass until we have more depth and better athletes. But I still expected more improvement on that end this year, even with our injuries.

Conferences don't have their own officials like football. It's not an SEC issue. It's a college basketball issue. The big games are better officiated because better teams are playing and are given more leeway.

I hate that fricking philosophy. I hate it I hate it I hate it.

A foul is a foul no matter what teams are on the damn court.

Nearly 20% of all our games were played by a walkon PG & C. Not exactly easy to play good defense when 6'5 Devin Waddell is at C and the walking turnover Patrick Keim is bringing the ball up court

That is before you realize that we had a SF Tyler Harris playing post defense, lost our best on ball defender in TSD, lost our bigman in TReed and nearly everyone was injured at some point in the year

Its Jay Jacobs fault that he forced Bruce Pearl to hire Chuck Person to coach bad defense.

I'm not trying to argue, and I understand all the excuses. I just wished, even with the lack of talent, our defense would have shown a little more development and effort.

Also, I find the reluctance to play a zone, even sparingly, very annoying.

I wished but it would be dumb to expect it. Not only were players forced out of their natural positions, but they were first year Pearl players. Hard to develop when you have no experience then midway through the year you have to learn a whole new position

I'm with you on this. Next year we should have the depth to have Pearl's signature full court D. Employing a zone this year would have been a temporary thing anyways

I don't recall seeing much full court D this year, but then most of my basketball has been AU and some SEC highlights. Does anybody do this anymore? Has it been affected by the new rules?

Neither have I seen Gus play with a lot of pace these last few years.

We've been frickin' had, brah.

Jeez man, Injuries, Purifoys eligibility and Canty leaving KILLED the season.

Starters
Canty
Dunans
Purifoy
Harris
Bowers

Bench
Spencer
Lang
Brown
Shamsid-Deen
Granger
Reed
Williams

This is a 20 win team.

But most of the season, we had

Starters
Brown
Lang
Spencer
Granger
Harris

Bench
Bowers
Kiem
Waddell

This is a 11 win team. There's the difference.

Next season, we'll have

Dunans
Purifoy
Heron
Harper
Brown
Lang
Spencer
Shamsid-Deen
Williams
Reed
McLemore
and probably another grad big man

Bruce isn't leaving. That team has 3-5 NBA talents on it.

Too early to be drunk. That many NBA would be a final four team.

Reed will play in the NBA if he gets his shite together at 7ft, Heron is a 5* which means he is expected to be an NBA guy and Purifoy is supposed to be that good

Bryce Brown Horace Spencer the potential down the road if they continue to develop

At least you're one who's willing to admit he didn't watch us and is just being reactionary. We ran a press at the beginning of the year when we had bodies to come in off the bench. It was pretty effective got us some quick turnovers and points but also led to some quick scores, but such is the nature of it.

Last night, we tried to press UT. Instead we let a couple of their guys get behind the press, opening up a long pass and easy layup for them.

How do you make such a trivial error that late in the season??? I don't even think we had our walk-one playing at that moment.

How do you not make stupid mistakes when you haven't had any real game experience with a defense?
