FSU & CLEMSON - would be my choice
VA TECH & NC STATE - would expand the conf best.
But I still think , that because of the GOR all current P5 teams are locked where they are or don't want to move.
With the new demands of the P5 , I think part of that negotiation will be for all 5 conferences to expand to 16.
And for that I believe all of the p5 will bring in "smaller schools" in new geographic markets for their conference.
It's settled then, ECU and Old Dominion to get us into NC and VA.

I can see wanting VT over UVA because of football (although if prefer UVA), but why on earth would anyone want NCST over UNC?

Because Wolfpack.

As long as the new king of the SEC has knows geography better than the current king -- or at least which direction is west and which is east

Well, when you put it like that.

Just messing--I've always kinda liked NC St., though. Don't really know why, but I know they have a pretty passionate fanbase.

The only two that would fit culturally, demographically, and put enough asses in the seats are FSU and Clemson. They are both in the top 20 in attendance. Adding national brands is more important at this stage than individual markets. Adding TCU would turn on an extra 50,000 to 100,000 tv sets. Adding either of the above turns on 5-10 times that on name recognition alone. Simply adding markets does not mean shite if nobody in the market watches the team in question.Half of the names being tossed around can't put 45,000 in the stands, what makes anyone think people will pay to watch them on TV

University of Washington and Miami

Well Duke and / or UNC would be preferable over NCSU. but they may be. Package deal. And we don't need 2 from NC much less 10iled apart

UNC and Virginia
or
UNC and Duke
The money is on the east coast, not the dust belt.

Fans are obsessed with brand names, not presidents, commissioners, ads, or networks. They prefer new markets , subscriptions, and money.

FSU
Clemson
VaTech
West Virginia (there is a considerable western PA tv market that would come with this one)
Oklahoma State
Georgia Tech
My preferred first two (for E/W balance) would be:
FSU
Oklahoma State

Pick up Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, and Florida State. Lose Arkansas to Conference USA and Missouri goes back to the Big 12.
East:
Florida
Florida State
South Carolina
Miami
Georgia
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Tennessee
West:
Alabama
Vandy
Kentucky
Auburn
LSU
aTm
Mississippi State
Ole Miss

Everyone seems to still be pro geographic/cultural integrity with their mentions, but I am surprised to see how many people are choosing based on the TV concern of only bringing in schools that add a state to the viewership.
People who follow realignment, and who would respond to a thread like this, are probably more likely to be thinking about it strategically.
I'd favor UNC and VTech. Adds the two remaining Southern states, as well as one blue blood basketball program (UNC) and one good football program (VTech). UVA just doesn't seem to really care about athletics. While UNC football is historically no great shakes, I think w/ SEC membership, both the new additions would see surges in their recruiting. Not only strengthening themselves in their own states, but pulling recruits from B1G territory.
But really, my first choice is just no schools in Texas or Oklahoma.

Cincinnati and UConn. Two schools desparately looking for a new home. And think of the MARTKETZ!!

University of Louisiana and University of Texas...keep the flagships united.

At this point schools like UConn and Cincinnati are some of the only schools likely to join a power conference. You can keep wishing a school will leave the ACC, but with the 50 million exit fee and GOR it ain't happening. I was just giving actual realistic options.

I don't get this. They add nothing in terms of TV sets or revenue. Might as well be Tulane or Troy in terms of what they bring to the monetary table.

Do you really wish those two schools (Cincinnati and UConn) would be added to the Southeastern Conference? Would you really want to watch them play in the SEC?
I was just giving actual realistic options.
