I do think Cincinnati would be a decent fit. I don't think UConn does.

But if you simply want to wish, well then give me Ohio State and USC.

I think of the non P5 teams, that UCINN and ECU , make the most sense , especially ECU, the get you NC, and they already have the most attendance at their games, all sell outs.

I just think they could be the next va tech

I don't get this. They add nothing in terms of TV sets or revenue. Might as well be Tulane or Troy in terms of what they bring to the monetary table.

Check out the nielson ratings and average attendance numbers. These two teams bring way more than anyone else in the region.

Money is what is destroying college football. If you want quality, enjoyable football each weekend you add Clemson and Florida State. Screw footprints and tv sets in the name of more shitty football.

Irrelevant.

What matters in 2014 is how many new cable TV sets do you add in the footprint for SEC Network extortion. The extra ratings on CBS a Clemson or a FSU would mean very little in changing that Tier 1 contract. Meanwhile a Va Tech or NC State would add MILLIONS of cable subscribers who even if they don't give a crap about football will pay the SEC $0.50 per month.

If you want teams like a FSU or Clemson to be added to the SEC then you better hope expansion doesn't happen for 25+ years.

Maybe in that time the cable monopoly will be dead and the SEC Network actually has to fight for subscribers one at a time. At that point the football product will matter more than footprint and those teams would be tempting.

It would make no sense to duplicate any of our existing footprint. VT and NCSU would be my choices. However, the GoR that exists in the ACC would likely prevent this.

I think we all stay where we are for a while now.

Either:

1. Oklahoma & Texas: these 2 go to the West, Mizzou moves to the West, Bama & Auburn go East...

OR

2. FSU & Clemson: these 2 go East, Mizzou moves to the West...

I'd prefer scenario 1 as this would maintain the Bama/UT & Auburn/UGA rivalries and we could then probably do away with permanent cross-divisional opponents with little opposition...

In terms of expansion & money, at what point does it become counter-productive? If schools like OU or FSU came in, what good does it do for schools like Ole Miss (who's never gotten to the SECCG) or South Carolina. (I only use those two as examples because they have competitive programs but don't win SEC/divison titles) Schools get more money, but the road to winning is now that much tougher. At some point, you don't want your schedule or division to be an absolute gauntlet. That's why I'd be all for adding teams like UNC, Duke, or UVA if we were to expand. Add markets, add money, make basketball stronger but they wouldn't make the football side a bloodbath.

Everyone says college football is all about money, but a coach or AD could be bringing in all the money in the world and it wouldn't matter if their teams weren't winning.

OU is probably a non-starter for several reasons:

1) A&M, Arkansas, LSU, and Missouri would likely not approve.
2) OU brings no additional TV footprint of significance.

Texas is an interesting choice. The above schools would likely vote against as well, but they would deepen the TV market penetration in the state. However, tu has a long history of running down the SEC alleging that we are all cheaters, and low quality academic schools. It is likely that Texas would never stoop so low as to join the SEC.

As for OU, they had their chance to come with us.

From a geographical perspective, Oklahoma and N.C. St. Oklahoma and Okie St. or FSU and Clemson are probably more feasible. However it works out, Missouri needs to end up in the West and Auburn could move to the East.

JHMO... expansion needs to fit this criteria:

- new TV markets, should bring something new to the table
- since we are the SOUTHeastern conference, should be a geographical fit, preferably contiguous to current footprint
- doesn't cannibalize existing team strengths
- solid academic profile
- comprehensive sports programs with good history
- no schools smaller than current members, public schools preferred, "regional" not really an option

With that criteria list in mind...

Won't Work:

Overlapping markets: Memphis, Southern Miss, Florida State, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville - note: Florida and Texas are so big that a market overlap might still work for a VERY major school
Too small or private: Wake Forest, Duke, Tulane, Rice
Just can't see a fit here- either markets or academics: Memphis, Southern Miss, South Florida, Central Florida
Political problems: Texas (will never go where Texas A&M is), Okla St. and Oklahoma are tied together

Might work:

North Carolina -OR- NC State
Virginia -OR- Virginia Tech
Maryland
Texas - OR - Baylor -OR- Houston - OR- TCU
Cincinnati
Miami

IMHO expansion plans should go for NC State and Virginia Tech, and move Missouri to the West.

Never ever ever Texas. We don't need a Bama part 2. Sure as sugar, they would move the SEC office to Austin... and they'd have to give up the LHN.

Aren't they stuck as a package deal with Oklahoma State?

To a certain point.

If the Big 12 crumbles and T Boone is dead, OU won't sink their program just to keep OSU relevant.

BUT

As long as any viable option to stay in the same conference as OSU is on the table they will stick together.

For now, yes. But if things really get desperate in the B12, and OU has no other place to go, they may be able to break free.
