Bridgewater is small

Not really. Bulger, Brady, Vick, Brees, Seneca Wallace, Russell Wilson were all similar sized QB's in terms of weight.

Bridgewater is a composed pocket passer with a big arm and impressive instincts.

Josh Norris ?@JoshNorris 19 Jul 12 Really enjoy watching Louisville QB Bridgewater play. Just a soph & look forward to seeing it come together. Moves well in pocket/vert arm.

You can look up clips on youtube as well to see that's false.

He also played in a weak conference.

No question but he also played:

UCF, Miami, Kentucky, UNC, Florida, West VA, NC State.

I'd rather have Manziel than Bridgewater. I'd rather have a lot of QBs in this draft over Bridgewater.

WHY?

Comparing Manziel to Bridgewater passing stats

Passing yards - Manziel 4,114 Bridgewater 3,970
Yards per attempt - Manziel 9.6 Bridgewater 9.3
TD/Int - Manziel 37/13 Bridgewater 31/4
Adjusted total QBR - Manziel 86.3 Bridgewater 80.9

So versus much better competition, Manziel wins every passing stat comparison except INTs.

That's not even factoring in Manziel's 2,169 rushing yards and 30 rushing TDs compared to Bridgewater's 170 rushing yards and 6 rushing TDs. But again, even for the "Manziel can't run da ball liek dat in da NFLs" crowd, he's still better in the pocket.

I'd take Blake Bortles if I had first pick and needed a QB.

I suppose we are all forgetting what happens when Manziel is not able to scramble and take advantage of people over pursuing? See him VS LSU.

Stats would say otherwise.

Do you know how successful the top "stats" college QB's were in the NFL?

Case Keenum, Timmy Chang, Landry Jones, Graham Harrell, Ty Detmer.

0/5

College stats don't mean much in the NFL.

You asked why someone would take Manziel over Bridgewater. Is that not what we're discussing anymore?

IMO, Houston has to get JFF. Teddy would be a good pic, but Johnny will sell out the stadium. It is a high risk, high reward kind of deal though.

Manziel is high risk, high reward. He's got a lot of bust potential. But if he succeeds, his marketability is through the roof. The Texans are doing well in Houston but really have gotten little traction outside the area. It might be worth the gamble for the franchise.

I'm honestly not sure what would be worse for the Texans, taking him and him busting or not taking him and him being successful elsewhere.

with no clear #1 and no need for Clowney I guess the Texans might just roll the dice on JFF. If nothing else he generates interest and the price for picking the wrong QB at the top of the draft is no longer a deal breaker.

I don't know that he's going to really be a NFL QB but they might be sorta boxed in on this one with what's available and the need to generate interest.

I think the Texans take Clowney and get a second round QB, though.

Certainly what the owner wants, we'll see if it happens

The good thing is with the new rookie salary structure a bad pick isn't as devastating. Until McNair says something different, I still think they go with Clowney.

Kiper only mocks the first round.

The texans have cheerleaders with broader shoulders than Manziel. The kid is going to get killed in the nfl.

Hill is projected to be the first QB taken

and he didn't quote Kiper

He gave his own predictions

Yeah, there were no RB's in Kiper's first mock and I didn't give my own predictions. Those were from Kiper's mock.

there are a number of teams who need RBs right now. I don't understand his line of thinking here.

I thought he was going to get killed in the SEC after everyone had a year of tape on him? At least that was the mantra all of last off season.
