quote:You know what would be fun for those in the SEC who truly want Bama to fall off the map? If they're dumb enough to truly make a serious effort at going after Texas for tampering (or even just feed the media enough it seems like they are) then it's gloves off time. Saban is no longer coach at Bama and having an office in the stadium isn't enough. You think Kirby, Sark and every single coach who ever touched ground in Tuscaloosa don't know where at least one of the bodies are buried? If Bama dares go after multiple schools suddenly the location of all the bodies becomes known. Trust me when I say Bama is the last program that wants to open an "investigation" on another program...because anyone who's ever been near a courtroom knows what happens next and why so many cases are settled "out of court".
All over Twitter, the Bama board, etc., they are whining about how the sport is ruined and how “nobody has loyalty anymore”
Not to mention they are angry at Kirby, Sark, etc for “stealing” their players.
I know they’re not the brightest bunch, but I’m actually shocked by the lack of self awareness.
For the last few years, transfers have been a massive piece of Bama’s rosters
Gibbs
Henry T
Burton
Jameson Williams
Trez
Ricks
I didn’t see any Bama fans crying about disloyalty when they picked up those guys in the portal ?
I’m still trying to decide if they are really stupid, or just in denial. It’s probably both
It ain’t no fun when the rabbit’s got the gun I guess ?
Lulz, I truly hope the fanbase crying triggers the Bama admin to sign their own death sentence, lulz.

Alabama was in the playoff..
Was it impossible for Saban to announce that this would be his last season in say, November then the program could work on locating a new coach and retaining the roster?
At worst, you'd have an idea on who is leaving.

Then you weren’t paying attention. They are still crying over Burton

That’s what I implied in another thread. With Saban gone and now a NAIA HC in Tuscaloosa, what prevents the REC from going scorched earth? Might as well bring it all down with them.

This is not the same as a regular portal year when there is no coaching change. Bama lost players to the portal, graduation and the draft every year under Saban also. But a legend retiring and a 30- day open season on Bama’s players is different.
Not really, you just have to figure out who you want in the spring and tamper with them.

The portal and NIL are out of control, but I don’t blame any program or player for utilizing those things.

You mean the 2023 D1 AP Coach of the Year, Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, Home Depot Coach of the Year, Sporting News Coach of the Year, Walter Camp Coach of the Year, 2x PAC 12 Coach of the Year and the coach of the D1 14-1 national championship game Washington Huskies.

Nobody is complaining about the goddamn portal.
We're complaining about a portal that can be open for only one team and allow 130 teams to bid on the entire roster.
Some of you are really stupid.

Yes. That’s the NAIA coach I was referring to.

List all the seasons that UGA has been the only team with an open portal.
I'll wait.

It isn't open for only one.
You opened it for Washington and they in turn opened it for Arizona.

Michigan is open too right?

quote:That would be possible but, frick dude. That’s the best strategy we’re left with? A coach has to know he’s going to retire in January, then announce it early in the middle of a playoff push with Auburn and Georgia on the horizon?
Was it impossible for Saban to announce that this would be his last season in say, November
I think they need to look into different types of coaching vacancies and the timing of them. There’s no need for Alabama’s portal to be open 3 times in 4 months when they didn’t even fire their coach.

Would you rather this or in November/December like LSU/Auburn experienced where it's open season on both your current players and incoming recruits?
It's not really about the timing of the year for me, I'm happy with Saban choosing to wait till after the playoffs to leave.
I'd rather the NCAA not allow a program's roster to be engaged by other programs in a one-sided affair. There should be a means by which players on other rosters can explore their opportunities with a new coaching staff at a program without penalty.
I've suggested something like if you engage a player on a team in this 30 day window, your roster is welcome to explore opportunities with that program's coaching staff as well.
Or just create a smaller secondary portal that players can enter only to engage with teams experiencing a head coaching change. This preserves fairness, and allows the team filling out their staff a better opportunity to backfill a roster that may get depleted because it no longer fit their offensive/defensive philosophy, or the relationship between coach/player simply isn't there
Its too late for this to help Bama, but I would still want to see it because I don't think this is sustainable

There's literally a thread on the UGA board called, 'It's becoming harder to remain a fan of college football'
