If you can't convince the players already on the to stay, why do you think similar caliber players on other teams would be flocking to Bama right now?
Every player in the country is weighing their situation. What they’re being paid, their quickest way to start, their happiness with their geographical location and program, etc.

Coaches around the country are undoubtedly attempting to bolster their rosters, but also have this unbelievable opportunity to gut Alabama’s roster and send them to what’s essentially an NCAA sanctioned death penalty.

You don’t think there is potential for a backup CB at a UNC or anywhere else that might be thinking “man I liked coach DeBoer while he was recruiting me and that CB spot looks available right now.”

If a coach is throwing lambos at Alabama’s roster, why on earth does it not open up their roster as well?

But I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I am relishing in the fans who thought it was because "We're DAMN BAMA!" having their worldview completely shattered into a million pieces overnight.

I lived in Alabama off and on for about 20 years. You are going to find that a lot of those fans were fans of Nick Saban more so than the University of Alabama. There are a lot of band wagon fans in that state. The Auburn gear and bumper stickers are about to come out en masse. Both schools have their share of hardcore fans but there are a lot of flip floppers on the side walk.

There’s literally a thread on the Bama board right now talking about how Downs & Proctor leaving is a sign of the death of CFB and how they are just guns for hire.

I liked the thread yesterday or the day before where OP on the Bama board was asking just how NIL worked. Like it hasn't been around for several years now and most of their roster truly went to play for Saban just because of his reputation. Of course, Saban's rep is deserved, but now that he is gone, you have fans absolutely clueless how NIL and collectives work. So they're basically three years behind the game.

Because the coach they signed with is still there and didn’t mislead them.

Did LSU not tear their OWN program apart?

Spin it. LSU players were allowed to leave via portal, and they did. Same happening at Alabama. Now it's an issue... wow!

Just because that’s the narrative Bama fans invented to raz LSU fans doesn’t make it true. Fournette struggled with an injury that season (high ankle sprain?) and only played in 7 games. The Citrus Bowl wasn’t the only game he missed that year.

You just can’t seem to get past the bias of your perceptions. It’s a lack of self awareness.

He also can't bring himself to admit several other things:

They didn't time Saban's retirement announcement well

They hired a fairly unknown coaching staff, at least to their roster

There are a ton of players still in the portal that they can sign

For the last few years, transfers have been a massive piece of Bama’s rosters

Massive?

Found the MSN headline writer! 6-12 out of 255 players the last three years is Massive?

Many have absolutely misled them and many players will have been in position to win a starting job but have a portal player snatched up and placed ahead of them on their own team.

Can’t say which coaches have done that, but undoubtedly some have.

Your response was a shite answer to why a program shouldn’t have their portal open if they’re will to offer Lambos to opposing players at other programs.

It would instantly bring a level of fairness to what is an absolute disaster of a policy now.

What’s funny about that?

Alabama hasn’t used the portal like many other schools have. We don’t have threads about having 30 days to throw Lamborghinis at players who have had coaches retire. Has Alabama even signed a player that wasn’t in the “normal” portal?

It doesn’t seem odd in the slightest that many of us don’t know how it works like maybe a UF, FSU, or Ole Miss fan would.

Comparing 6 transfers over 3 years to what's happening at BAMA now is pretty stupid.
I say let them transfer. Time for BAMA to evolve or die.

It could always be worse. BAMA could have Hugh Freeze.

Whose fault is this? If Saban stays a bit longer it’s closed.

lol what?

It opens the second Saban leaves. It's a completely separate, one-way portal that hamstrings any program that loses a head coach. There is literally nothing a program can do to stop this happening no matter when your coach leaves

The real question is whether the new coach anticipated this level of attrition, probably not.

You can’t see a difference in all teams being able to use the tranfer portal at the same time and what’s going on right now? Which is an Alabama player auction. Players just had a month to tranfer. And they get another chance in April. You really want a coaching change, during good times, to be a death penalty for every top program?

Thems the breaks. Shame that Bama finally has to play by the same rules as everyone else.

But I think the outcome is exacerbated by it being Saban as opposed to most other coaches. They went to Bama to play for Saban.

The Bama Turd fans laughed when kids were jumping ship on UT after Pruitt the Poot Gump was fired and they took Toot Toot.

The old saying...What goes around comes around.

There's some truth to this. Saban always had us on the "good" side of the system's quirks and exploitations.

Unfortunately now we're on the wrong end of it, at least from a portal perspective.

So yes, Bama fans are finally feeling what most of the other fanbases have been feeling.

I keep seeing all these people from Alabama (and some from other programs) bitching about how college football is set up now, but I have to ask, why?

The old system for college football would not fly at all in any other situation. The only reason we accepted it was because "that was how it always had been".

A 16/17/18 year old kid makes a commitment that will effect his entire future going forward and he should be forced to stick with it regardless of how the situation changes or suffer the penalty?

I don't recall having to pick what major I am going to study or what job I will have out of high school and being forced to stay with it a minimum of 3 years. I don't recall when I wanted to change job or majors that I had to sit out for a year before I could do so.

Should there be some changes to the system? Absolutely. But right now every school in the US plays by the same rules. Some have more advantages than others, but we had that previously as well.

Bama is going through what LSU went through after O nuked our program. We got over it and won the SEC West the next year. We had a Heisman winner the year after. Bama can put on their big boy pants and be just fine.

Florida has been saying this for years now.

Can't say that some Georgia fans wouldn't say it too if it were happening to them.

Reeks of taking your ball and going home when you're losing.
