On a college tour, my son asked me what “meal plan” I chose when I was a student at Auburn (late 80’s). I had to laugh out loud.

My “meal plan” was whatever my broke arse could scrape together to afford.

Curious to know yours. Among those places on my “plan”…

$.99 Chicken Italian from PJ Findley’s on magnolia

Hartz Chicken buffet on Magnolia.

Mr. Gatti’s Pizza all-you-can-eat pizza and sketti on S. Gay St. across from the Del Taco

Del Taco $.50 tacos on Sundays.

That was the place when I had money which wasn't as frequent as I would have liked. I was flying planes that took most of my spending money. Always had money for beer somehow though.

My senior year I was the night manager at Little Ceasars so I remember a lot of pizza nights.

I went to all of these regularly as well as Mike and Ed's BBQ.

Prolly the most common was the checkers just north of DT. Checkerburgers + chili dogs

Also spent all my dining money on Chic Fil A, Salsarita's and later panda express

the chinese buffet by the bookstore on S. college

The all-you-can-eat buffet at the Chinese joint that was in front of & adjacent to The Heart of Auburn Motel was MONEY.

If you went to Auburn since 2000, the only answer is Chick-fil-a.

Chickfila on the meal plan.

If you asked for it, dominoes would give you a large pepperoni pizza for $5, which was a steal.

Surf and Subs. (They delivered LATE night.)

Frank’s. (Their hot buffalo wings were HOT, brother.)

Guthrie’s. (A timeless classic.)

I spent as much money as possible on alcohol

Didn’t do a meal plan after the first year. I went to Kroger most days looking for sale meat and typically combined it with pasta or rice and some sort of sauce. Split a lot of cici’s pizza

One Christmas someone got me a George Foreman so I did a TON of chicken breast from the 10lb bags at Walmart.

It fricking rocked

All those mentioned by Tailback and Taco Bell. Freshman year I almost lived off the turkey hoagies at the kitchen at CDV Ext.

I ate in the cafeteria. Meatloaf, Mac and cheese, and canned peaches were served often.

The Strutting Duck had a pitcher and wing special once a week…can’t remember the day but we were there every week and it was cheap.

There was a pizza place (not there anymore) that had coupons for BOGO on large so yeah 2 larges would be two full days back then..I also got stuff on sale and made food that would last me many days.

I had to live cheap as I had to make my money on breaks to cover the entire year. Many double shifts during the breaks.
