Freeze's presser: Youtube

25 minutes.

Quote (from me listening):

quote:

The glaring negative that we got by with in this game, but we will not get by with in future games, is alignment and assignment. It's frustrating. We had numerous snaps - 15 I think - that we were not lined up correctly. It's gonna bite us big time if that continues.

It's one thing if a good player makes you miss a tackle. That's one thing. But for us to be aligned improperly, be a gap short, or not be on the same page with all 11 on the back end. It will burn you.

EDIT: Freeze is not happy about playing Cal because of the logistics of going to California during the regular season. He said it was scheduled before he got here and has no control over it. He said "that's life" and the team must embrace the challenge.

I am sure they will "bring it" but historically Cal has not achieved anything unless it was before any of us were born.
History has no meaning on what happens this Saturday between these two teams.

Freeze said the kids played hard but you can’t line up wrong 15 times in a game. Sounds like D was having problems with run fits to me.

Going to turn into a boat race. Lots of points scored by both teams. Maybe it is coach speak but Freeze didn't sound confident about our defense and over all outlook in today's press conference.

It doent take a rocket scientist to see that they were gashing us when their QB was not injured. It was early and we certainly would have adjusted but once he was hurt, the running game was easy to stop.

I honestly didnt notice a bunch of misalignments. I didnt see guys running around trying to get lined up.

Im looking forward to the game this Saturday. We may get to see our guys dig in and fight.

Right you are rig, the classic statistical mistake never mistake a permutation for a combination, Vegas has capitalized on that fact for decades.

Regarding alignment,Im by no means a "football guru" but even I noticed they were not blocking holes there were gaping holes to begin with in our defense, they just ran past us and other than Asante our backers were no where to be found.

Kite? He was probably our best defensive lineman. Yes it looked bad on TV but dude was blowing his guy up. The linebackers weren’t filling the gap there and he had one missed tackle. Learn football!!!

I saw that missed tackle early on, maybe thats what people are basing his performance on, but I too thought he looked pretty good. Pink even commented on it on their show, one play does not make a game.

I'm really glad that Auburn's first game were played clean and error free. Florida came out "dirty" and really weren't ready to play. That's on their coaches.

Hold That Thought!!!!!

This Barfield/Dye old fart is getting on a plane Wednesday and not coming home until Monday and fully expects a win in Berkley. He sat his arse in the stands until the team was off the field.
I am wise enough to know this program has the potential to be the the best in Auburn history and delighted the School, Athletic Department, Boosters and majority of the fans are finally united.
It is something none of us have ever witnessed no matter when any of us went to school.
I am glad the team is united unlike this board.
Exciting times.... get on or get off. Always room in north west Alabama.

2011: Clemson. AU lost 38-24
2014: Kansas St. AU won 20-14
2017: Clemson. AU lost 14-6
2021: Penn St. AU lost 28-20

1-7

1-7 is not good but 4 of the 8 road games were against top 5-10 competition. Not many teams can win those games.

The other 4, we went 1-3 which is really poor.

Competitively, I think Cal is not as good as the Syracuse team and the environment is not as hostile as WVU.

This is a Georgia Tech type game with a different time zone. We should win as long as we limit the turnovers.

LB’s were terribly aligned a ton. Playing way too far back. Watched some plays and they were 7 yards off the ball. No way they would be able to run fit correctly.

this was how the D began each scrimmage too..

seems like something that can be fixed

One thing offensively I never understood was why our guys never just put the ball out in front. Thorne had one or two like that I can remember and Ashford had at least two where there was o help over the top and our guy running a streak one on one. Instead of throwing the ball to the end zone, they threw more back shoulder balls or those kind of jump balls right over the defender’s head. Just let it fly and let our guy run to it. Easily 3 TD’s we should have had good shots at (not including the miscommunication with Deal and Thorne).

But AU played USC who was dominating the country at that time.
they came into that game having lost 19 games in their previous 3 seasons
quote:

The two Clemson loses were to Dabo coached teams (Clemson had at least 10 wins both seasons)
2011 Clemson finished with 4 double-digit losses in their last 6 games, including giving up 70(!) in their bowl game

2017 was a legit good team (CFP runner-up) but still lost to 4-8 Syracuse
quote:

2021 Penn St. was a good team
that lost to 5-7 Illinois and 5 other teams

point being, we need to beat someone on the road

In fairness, USC didn't take the lead until the end of the game. If Ronnie Brown was utilized more (he looked impressive in limited time) instead of leaning heavily on an injured Caddy, we might've extended a few drives in the 2nd half and pulled out a W. Long story short, it wasn't a "sh!t the bed"-type loss IMO, and I'd probably hang a significant amount of blame on the coaches for personnel decisions...

it might have been bad luck timing but there were 2 camera shots where UMass runners ran right by him and made him look terribly slow if you're talking about 33. I didn't see what you were seeing but that might have just been me.

I think most RB’s would make an almost 300 pound DLman look slow.
