Of course he says that, is this your first coaching hire? Champ said the same thing

Kevin Steele says he'll have input in naming Auburn's other defensive coaches, but says Gus Malzahn will make the call
That's interesting since our insiders insist Gus has no interest in day-to-day operations and just sticks to offense. Seems irresponsible that someone with such a small interest would insist on hiring assistants to coach the unit he wants nothing to do with.

Really, Muschamp brought TRob with him. Is this your first coordinator hire? The only time I remember a coordinator not being able to bring at least ONE assistant was this guy...

Saddest picture ever, but I love it!

Exactly his point.
A little dose of reality here for you: People don't always mean what they say. Especially when they're saying things in front of the media.

He is going beyond that... here is one tweet..

Be nice if Gus Malzahn got up at the podium and answered all these questions Kevin Steele is deferring to his new boss.
Please show me a link where Champ said GUS would hire any new defensive coaches...
HERE IS THE 247 Version which is what I expected him to say..(Which version is correct????)
Steele said Malzahn has given him free rein to bring in the staff members he'd like, though he declined to go into much detail Tuesday. But with much work to be done between now and the beginning of next season, Steele was ready to hit the ground running.

A head coach is making decisions on who he wants on staff???

Approximately 2 weeks ago, I was upset that Malzahn had zero interest in running a football program and or anything unrelated to his offense.
Today, I am upset that our offensive minded HC has any input in hiring defensive coaches on his coaching staff.

Haha. At least you own your inconsistency.
I would imagine it's a joint decision. I don't hire people without at least a discussion with my boss on the best approach. Steele likely wouldn't either.

I don't care if my HC DGAFs about getting involved in daily operations/administrative items as long as he recognizes he needs to bring talented administrators to handle it.
Steve Jobs had a Tim Cook to run the business side while he obsessed over the product. Gus needs a Tim Cook for admin stuff so he can obsess over the offense

For those who want consistency:
quote:
Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele: "I want to be here the duration of my coaching career."

Steele said his wife said: "We're going to Auburn and we're staying in Auburn.' ... There's no ink that could give more of a guarantee."

He better coach and recruit like it

I'd imagine she's excited to get out of Baton Rouge.
Regardless, he's pushing 60, so it makes sense he'd want to make this his last stop. Hopefully he's successful enough to make that happen. I wouldn't mind a consistent coaching staff.

Excited to get out of Baton Rouge? You're telling me she didn't appreciate those top of the line section 8 mansions that LSU puts their coaching staff in?
